Check e-bay, there is a spindle there now.
Can the shaft be knurled to effectively increase the diameter and reduce the bearing to inner race clearance? Ideally, the inner race is stationary to the spindle right?

I made a little more progress tonight out in the cold weather.
I put a coat of paint on the base.

A coat of primer on the bottom of the table. I didn't clean it as thoroughly as I did the other pieces.

Lastly, I have a question about one of the broke parts on my drill press. In the picture below is a part that is pressed onto the motor shaft (from the left). The bottom of one of the pulleys is pressed on to the bottom (left) of the piece and held in place with a set screw. On the top (right) of the piece there is a key way that has been partially worn away. The other half of the pulley slides along the top (right) of the part and the key keeps the pulley from rotating on the part. My question is, can I have another key way cut into this part on the other side? The location of the set screw hole and keyway aren't connected in any way. I'd think that I could have another one cut and it'd be cheaper than buying the new part but wanted to check first.
Any thoughts?

Edit: The guy on ebay got back with me and said he doesn't have just the spindle to sell. Doh! I also stopped by a machine shop after work to see about repairing the spindle but "the guy" who could help me was already gone. I'm going to try again tomorrow.
david, was your pulley a two piece that goes on that shaft? because mine was.the bottom goes on first with the spring under it,mine has the key joint in the shaft,but doesn't have a slot in the pulley itself.all mine had was a pin in the side,thought it was a set screw,but it was a pin about 1/4'' round and i'm guessing it was hammered in.i sheared the set screw off in the top when i pressed the shaft out,luckily i put it back together,ran a 1/4-20 tap in it and put a bolt in it until i can get the right set screw.
i think i'm going to re drill it also,or add a second one.only thing keeping the pulley from spinning on mine is the set screw,so i'm not real concerned with the key way.
nice color to btw.just got my colors today,weather permitting,i'm gonna shoot the base some time tomorrow.

I made some small progress tonight.
Here I'm taping the holes that hold the placard onto the front of the DP. The small DP in the picture is only used for holding the tap vertical. I turned it with my hand. The placards on the Clausing drill press were all held in with tiny barbed rivets that I destroyed upon removal or lost. I think screws will do a much better job.

Same thing for the motor. No I didn't drill the holes. I just reused the old ones. No idea what is on the placard but it doesn't want to come off with any of my cleaners.

On the plus side, I've contacted A_Pmech about cutting a new keyway in the cylinder and boring a platic bushing.

thanks,i'm pretty close right now,minus motor of course.spent a little time on it today,just need to take some progress pics and post them.i need to pull that knob and replace the roll pins and then do the badges.my connection for the knobs is ghost,so i decided to make new ones.i'm going to my guy tomorrow to pick up a few feet of 1 1/4 aluminum round stock and i'll turn some new "custom" ones.

Here's a small update for those who may be following.
I got the coil spring cover installed and painted. A third hand would have helped with the install.

I got an email back from the Plaza Machinery guy that night saying he'd look around. I haven't heard from him since. I emailed another machine shop in a nearby town (Pensacola) and never got a response from them.
So, I finally said the heck with with and bought that used spindle off Ebay that Outlawmws posted. Now I'll have and extra chuck and quill.
John shipped my parts out on Monday and sent me the tracking number. The USPS hasn't updated the info since Monday though it says it'll get here this coming Monday.
So now I'm waiting for parts.
glad to see the progress.did you see the pic of the knob i posted in my thread? i think i'm gonna do three like that for the variable speed and three longer ones on the handles.
