I have a HF 6 gal 150 PSI compressor that had an internal fitting fail.
SO while I have it apart I am cleaning it up.

The aluminum parts have a little surface corrosion, and I wonder since the bottom of the cylinder is open to the same environment if it would be a good idea to apply some type of light surface lubricant or protectant.

Maybe a spray on dry film or silicon based spray.

I figure it can't hurt, but wanted to ask first.

Just take some motor oil and smear it around on the surface.

Edit - I meant while it is taken apart to keep the surfaces from corroding, if that was what you were worried about. Otherwise, as poster suggested below, some sort of dry lubricant.

the oil-less use graphite impregnated cups as the cylinder seals...

maybe some dry lube only... at least on my craftsman 33gal oil-less I used that drylube and have no ill side effects so far...
