It was cool early today, but very humid. As it warmed up it was miserable.
Got the rest of the rafters cut by breakfast (wife likes to eat about 9:00)
We had rain overnight so the existing roof dripped all morning.
My portable scaffold made it easy to get the rafters up.
My SIL showed up and helped on the last few so all the rafters were up by lunch break, at 1:30. It would have gone faster but the trim on the existing building was really hard to get off. Ring shank nails which have been there close to thirty years. Two step: drive a small sharp nail bar under the head to lift it, then drive a wonder bar under it and twist hard. Only broke one head off, that's the easy way. I left the trim on where it did not interfere with the joist.
SIL came back for 3:00 to 5:00 and we got stringers up to support the right end of the ceiling joists, and marked them off for 2 ft centers. He was going to come back at 7:00 but we had a thunderstorm bearing down on us. I plugged away and got half the joists up between showers.
I'm wore out tonight.
Hope to get all the purlins up tomorrow. When SIL came over he thought he was going to hand up purlins. I decided I wanted to get the ceiling joists up and work off of OSB laid on the joists to put purlins up. Only a few years ago I would have worked off the purlins as I installed them, but a few years makes a difference, and I don't want a cramp to cause an eight or ten ft fall to concrete. Maybe some wisdom has come with age

Maybe not
I made an inquiry for the metal yesterday and got a quote back this morning, from a metal building supply company. My local lumber yard used to be competitive but this quote beat them by a mile. Lumber yard is also ten days from order to receipt. Supply company promised metal to be available on this Friday, so if we get purlins on I should be able to get it the roof metal on Saturday and have some shade to work in.
