Andy, I just took an hour to catch up with this thread! I've been away for a few months, its great to come back and check out everything you've got goin on. Loved watching you machine the sheave out of that old farm pulley. Reminds me why I love GJ...lots of different people from a variety of backgrounds who can do so many things!

Climbed a ladder to monitor cab height. That's as close as I want it.

Hey Andy, I'm still catching up on the thread - I've been resisting commenting (I'm posting this in a diferent tab so that I don't lose my place), but I just got to the '39? International...
Very cool.
(The COE is still my favorite though - possibly because we didn't get them here).
Yeah, I know, that was way back in November - I don't know if I'm actually catching up or getting further behind.
Goes along with "when I get these thoughts in my mind I have to spit them out quickly or they'll pollute my brain".

Just dropping in to wish you and yours a happy new year, and to thank you for the last few days of entertainment as I've read all 69 pages of this thread. I can't say my employer would agree that it was the best use of my time, but I have the rest of the month to play catch up.
At 42, I wish I had the drive to get so little done in such a long period of time. I'm at least motivated now to start listing the projects I'll be sure not to complete this year![]()

Andy,
Man, the paint booth is coming out great! The entire project is moving along so quickly. I'm looking forward to seeing how you handle the exhaust fan set-up. If I ever get to working on the LC, at some point it will need paint. I have paint boot envy already.
Thanks for taking us all along this year!
Cheers,
Chris
Other than the last time, it barely started then ran fine.
Wish I could help you with that one Andy, but I don't do furnaces.
You nailed me right to the wall with your last commentVery perceptive! Dan will be proud that you identified Lazy Andy for what he is worth!

I certainly am happy to see another perceptive member here. I was feeling kind of alone and unwanted here.
I keep praying for your wife. She probably doesn't deserve what you put her through.
I was thinking about getting a haircut.![]()
make that mark 1-2 inches lower, incase of marker lights on the roof. just sayin.

ANDY: so now that the paint booth is set up i hear you are planning a LIEN TOO, but maybe you should just build a designated building for your RUSTY GOLD??
have a great day and let's get something done even though it's SATURDAY for us!!
But, you're right, I'm seriously considering completing the trusses I started many years ago for cold (and hot) storage. Hope things are rolling on your chair.Andy, this is my first post on here but what a read. You need to publish a book. I hope your grandson is learning a lot from you kids today do not have men like you to teach them.
Thanks for sharing.
Ran when parked.Wish I could help you with that one Andy, but I don't do furnaces.

I finally caught up, even though it was skimming. If you, Dan, and Drives keep this up, I think we should order you all jackets that make you hug yourself.

I guess you call that a filter valve? Nice idea, but for the three times I've needed one in fifty years I'll probably stick with a square screwdriver. Square because it does not tear the filter housing as easily. I try not to over torque filters, but, oh well.
Time is precious and I live in a sparsely populated area, so I am staying with the cabinets I have unless something falls out of the sky, like Slim's shelving
It's Okay, I was wearing a hard hat!
I was truly inspired by your daughter. I'm sure that just knowing her compels you do do everything you can for her.
All: If you haven't checked out Drives' thread for a wedding chair, you owe it to yourself.
+1 on this for sure!!!!!
Who wants an overblown detailed description? Oh yeah, you came back to my thread!
Back? Andy, you know I never left! I just took a break from shootin' my mouth off too much! I'll let you know when (or if) I finish my seismograph, so I might be able to warn you that you've had an earthquake!
Lift is designed to be moved on casters and used without bolting. To a large extent, surviving an earthquake requires flexibility. Therefore, bolting legs down solidly will likely result in deformation of the legs during a moderate earthquake rather than the lift taking a stroll across the shop a bit. Assuming the lift is loaded when the earthquake takes place. At some level of earthquake a loaded lift will collapse, bolted or not. I do not know, but suspect, the lift will successfully withstand a larger earthquake unbolted than bolted.
We have never been in an earthquake zone until fracking. The injection of large quantities of water into deep zones has apparently caused some shaking as the earth popped and groaned ingesting it's holiday dinners of water. The regulators have begun limiting injections and the earthquakes have slowed down. No mechanism present for a giant one and no forces to produce a giant one. IMHO.
The manual for the lift is written to appease all. Section where anchor bolts starts says quietly "If not bolting the lift down skip this section" then proceeds to highlight the regulations which are met by bolting it down. If the jurisdiction requires it, they are ready. They never recommend bolting it down. (they might sell fewer caster kits if they did)
And I'm lazy and not bolting it down is easier.
My hat's off to you! You read through text with no pictures!
Glad you liked it.
At the time, the IT professionals were not particularly amused. They thought I was making light of their important quest.
On the lift, I bolted it up so why would I bolt it downThis language is so confusing.
I'm thinking of learning Chinese. I hear they've got a lot a characters over there, maybe it would be fun.
... and some rubber bumpers on the walls!

OIF, I have been following along on your adventures since you started but have not had a chance to comment, Grandfather always said it is far better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt. You are multi talented and write a great story, you are one of the many that make GJ addictive
Well if you're not bolting it down, casters would probably be a good idea!... and some rubber bumpers on the walls!
Time will tell how it sets without bolting.
Andy, now you know you're sounding like Katy Perry! ...
"Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in then you're out
You're up then you're down
You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white ..."
While you're at it, you can go ahead and back up! Slow down faster and speed up slower! Turning left is the right way and left is the other way! When you're lost and can't find your way home, just remember that you can't get there from here! and ... No matter where you go there you are!
Have you ever seen Jack Webb and Johnny Carson in the Clapper Caper?
Do yourself a favor and take the time to watch it!
Good work on the paint booth and everything else you accomplish in a day!![]()

Cheers!

This is a great thread, love watching your progress and can't wait for the next update. Keep it up OIF!
Andy, I hope you're having a good time. We're missing your daily humor.
The "furnace" is what I refer to as diesels. "If I wanted to smell that ****, I'd have become a boiler technician"
Hurry back. And don't be so sure I won't turn right in NY and drive a couple of days just to meet you.![]()
Just finished reading everything Andy. You have an old school way of doing things that I haven't seen much of since my grandfather passed some years ago. His toys were well drillers though.
You make me feel lazy, all this stuff you get done in so little time. I only just got paint on the remainder of my garage almost a year later! My excuse was all the landscaping and new house stuff I was doing... yeah, that's what I'm going with...
It seems to me that the light in the painting the camera enough. In my garage I have to paint with a smaller amount of light.
Glad you're back safe and sound Andy. Hope you get caught up on the rest so we can start laughing at you ( I mean with you) again.
Did you get any extra diamonds you can send to me?
Farmer-
Whats up with your Signature..."I do it Daddy?"
Be interested to hear, and I am sure I am not alone.

Caught back up on your thread, looking good as always. It sure would be nice to get a few lifts around here!
A great little vacation!![]()
Andy, done deal.![]()
Andy: happy to hear you survived your little trip across some of the USA and thanks for sharing pictures of it with us.
as i read what you copied and pasted of what i wrote about my daughter it really gets me and i appreciate the support. you are a great guy and from reading your thread and seeing your posts this past few months i'm happy you joined GJ. the WEDDING CHAIR IS ALMOST READY FOR MANAGEMENT'S TESTING AND APPROVAL and i can see my little girl's smile already if i can pull this off.
Cheers (ITFTOG)
Drives,
If anyone can do it, it'll be you. Your one of the best here.
Back to you Andy.

No pictures from the space and rocket center? I live just north of Huntsville and work at Marshall Space Flight center which is on the army base behind the space and rocket center. Lots of exciting stuff going on here getting ready for SLS. They just finished a new test stand that will stress test the main stage and other components of SLS.

Here's a cool picture I robbed off google of Enterprise in one of the other test stands.

Andy, Glad that you had a good trip. Hope that the weather is not too bad. Appears that you are getting rain (which is needed) but hope that it does become a big ice storm and cause a lot of damage.
Dwight
Nice pics Andy. I was in Houston a few years ago and toured the Houston Space Center. I remember watching the moon shots in my childhood and finally got to see the Saturn V rocket. What a rush to think about strapping yourself on top of that thing and lighting it!
Great vacation!
Cheers!
ANDY: i posted up a few pictures on my thread and thought you might like one or a few for your thread too since i love your SIG LINE the past couple weeks a lot. i know you will change it some day, but it surely makes me smile every time i see that line.
cheers
Andy, was watching, "Handcrafted in America" and saw a broom maker making corn brooms. Very interesting process, was hoping it was you, but it was from down South somewhere. Going to have to try to trade you out of a broom. I turn pens and would find something to trade.
