Andy, I just took an hour to catch up with this thread! I've been away for a few months, its great to come back and check out everything you've got goin on. Loved watching you machine the sheave out of that old farm pulley. Reminds me why I love GJ...lots of different people from a variety of backgrounds who can do so many things!

Glad you stopped by! The variety of skills on GJ is astounding!

what's the problem with the dodge? paint booth lites look ideal.

jim

Won't start. No smoke, and the fuel shutoff solenoid is working. I could use some guidance. I was going to start by loosening the banjo on the side of the injector pump to confirm it is not getting fuel to the pump. Then I don't really have a plan. I could change the fuel filter, but I don't know how to trouble shoot the booster pump, maybe take suction and discharge loose and put a suction hose in a can of fuel? It could have a fuel line air leak with 300,000 miles on it. It's a 93. Had good power and still started quickly until it didn't. Other than the last time, it barely started then ran fine.

Hey Andy, I'm still catching up on the thread - I've been resisting commenting (I'm posting this in a diferent tab so that I don't lose my place), but I just got to the '39? International...

Very cool.
:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

(The COE is still my favorite though - possibly because we didn't get them here).

Yeah, I know, that was way back in November - I don't know if I'm actually catching up or getting further behind.

Just dropping in to wish you and yours a happy new year, and to thank you for the last few days of entertainment as I've read all 69 pages of this thread. I can't say my employer would agree that it was the best use of my time, but I have the rest of the month to play catch up.

At 42, I wish I had the drive to get so little done in such a long period of time. I'm at least motivated now to start listing the projects I'll be sure not to complete this year :D

Andy,
Man, the paint booth is coming out great! The entire project is moving along so quickly. I'm looking forward to seeing how you handle the exhaust fan set-up. If I ever get to working on the LC, at some point it will need paint. I have paint booth envy already.

Thanks for taking us all along this year!

Cheers,
Chris

Climbed a ladder to monitor cab height. That's as close as I want it.

Thanks for stopping in! A word about commenting. (does not apply to you) There's a saying "better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." I struggled with that for many years. I finally figured out I'm still a fool with my mouth shut so I just let it blow and the chips fall where they may.:willy_nil Goes along with "when I get these thoughts in my mind I have to spit them out quickly or they'll pollute my brain".:willy_nil:willy_nil

I think it's a '37 but the changes were few. I'm regretting getting it now, I just have too many projects out in front, unless I magically get faster at doing things. And since it is complete though rough, I can't bring myself to do anything but restore.

COE is my choice too, wish I had one from the thirties, but the Chevy matches my dream truck at a local welding shop in 1968.

When my wife retired she was a little behind and promised herself she'd catch up.

Now she's a big behind...

Wow! Struggled through all this drivel? I hope you got a laugh or two!

I think your employer would highly approve, the wisdom you gain on this thread of how not to do things will save you countless hours of mis-directed activity:bounce:

You nailed me right to the wall with your last comment:thumbup: Very perceptive! Dan will be proud that you identified Lazy Andy for what he is worth! May I have permission to quote you on that?

Thanks for the visit!!! I will try to live up to your expectations:bowdown:

You know, it was intended for a car storage spot and I thought "for a little more I can have a paint booth" and it kind of got out of hand. I lost a lot of wall storage. But all in all I'm pleased with it. I just have to complete my trusses outside to really get some pile-it space now. My dad was a B-17 pilot so I have pile-it in my genes.

I keep praying for your wife.

Truck has clearance lights, and I could see them (not in picture) but the mark is a couple of inches lower than the picture, and the dogs click in a couple of inches below that. So, about six inches of clearance resting on the stops.

Thanks for commenting!

I stay away from liens if at all possible:willy_nil But, you're right, I'm seriously considering completing the trusses I started many years ago for cold (and hot) storage. Hope things are rolling on your chair.

Thanks for posting, and welcome to my messy thread! My oldest grandson is trying to learn some, but he's pretty independent. The other four are not really interested in dirty hands. No matter, full speed ahead.

Before I try publishing I need to get my taxes ready for this year and get my foundry going, and do some pottery projects I have in mind (GJ coasters?) and rebuild some old cars and knit some more socks and get my loom back to weaving and clear some more brush and saw some more red oak lumber and get brooms made for orders and future shows, oh yeah, and CLEAN UP MY SHOP.

Ran when parked. Wish I could help you with that one Andy, but I don't do furnaces.:headscrat

Yes, absolutely, my wife has put up with a lot.

What is the furnace reference? That went right over my head and as I was looking up a bird crapped in my mouth (of course it was open...)

When Drives finally gets his daughter married off I plan to add to my signature:

Quote Booch:"I wish I had the drive to get so little done in such a long period of time"

Thanks fro keeping me honest, and my wife thanks you!

When you make your epic trip to Florida just turn right at NYC and it's a straight shot past St. Louis to stop by here. You'll avoid lots of traffic in the Carolinas and Georgia. Nothing there to see anyway.

I finally caught up, even though it was skimming. If you, Dan, and Drives keep this up, I think we should order you all jackets that make you hug yourself.

Bob and I have both spent time in the comfort of custom sized jackets. I really can't afford the time any more. But thanks for the thought!

Thanks for stopping by everyone. I'm scrambling this morning to get cows fed, hay set out, luggage packed, and wife set up so I can be gone for a week! I'll be scarce as clean spots in my shop for a week!

No fault hijacking for a week:rocker::rocker::rocker:

I guess you call that a filter valve? Nice idea, but for the three times I've needed one in fifty years I'll probably stick with a square screwdriver. Square because it does not tear the filter housing as easily. I try not to over torque filters, but, oh well.

Time is precious and I live in a sparsely populated area, so I am staying with the cabinets I have unless something falls out of the sky, like Slim's shelving:rocker::rocker::rocker:

It's Okay, I was wearing a hard hat!

I was truly inspired by your daughter. I'm sure that just knowing her compels you do do everything you can for her.:bowdown::bowdown:

All: If you haven't checked out Drives' thread for a wedding chair, you owe it to yourself.

+1 on this for sure!!!!!

Who wants an overblown detailed description? Oh yeah, you came back to my thread!:lol_hitti

Back? Andy, you know I never left! I just took a break from shootin' my mouth off too much! I'll let you know when (or if) I finish my seismograph, so I might be able to warn you that you've had an earthquake!

Lift is designed to be moved on casters and used without bolting. To a large extent, surviving an earthquake requires flexibility. Therefore, bolting legs down solidly will likely result in deformation of the legs during a moderate earthquake rather than the lift taking a stroll across the shop a bit. Assuming the lift is loaded when the earthquake takes place. At some level of earthquake a loaded lift will collapse, bolted or not. I do not know, but suspect, the lift will successfully withstand a larger earthquake unbolted than bolted.

We have never been in an earthquake zone until fracking. The injection of large quantities of water into deep zones has apparently caused some shaking as the earth popped and groaned ingesting it's holiday dinners of water. The regulators have begun limiting injections and the earthquakes have slowed down. No mechanism present for a giant one and no forces to produce a giant one. IMHO.

The manual for the lift is written to appease all. Section where anchor bolts starts says quietly "If not bolting the lift down skip this section" then proceeds to highlight the regulations which are met by bolting it down. If the jurisdiction requires it, they are ready. They never recommend bolting it down. (they might sell fewer caster kits if they did)

And I'm lazy and not bolting it down is easier.:willy_nil

 My hat's off to you! You read through text with no pictures!:rocker: Glad you liked it.:rocker::rocker: At the time, the IT professionals were not particularly amused. They thought I was making light of their important quest.:rocker::rocker::rocker:

On the lift, I bolted it up so why would I bolt it down:willy_nil This language is so confusing.:eyecrazy: I'm thinking of learning Chinese. I hear they've got a lot a characters over there, maybe it would be fun.

Well if you're not bolting it down, casters would probably be a good idea! :dunno: ... and some rubber bumpers on the walls!

Andy, now you know you're sounding like Katy Perry! ... :lol_hitti
"Cause you're hot then you're cold
You're yes then you're no
You're in then you're out
You're up then you're down
You're wrong when it's right
It's black and it's white ..."

While you're at it, you can go ahead and back up! Slow down faster and speed up slower! Turning left is the right way and left is the other way! When you're lost and can't find your way home, just remember that you can't get there from here! and ... No matter where you go there you are!

Have you ever seen Jack Webb and Johnny Carson in the Clapper Caper?
Do yourself a favor and take the time to watch it!

Andy, I hope you're having a good time. We're missing your daily humor.

Just finished reading everything Andy. You have an old school way of doing things that I haven't seen much of since my grandfather passed some years ago. His toys were well drillers though.

You make me feel lazy, all this stuff you get done in so little time. I only just got paint on the remainder of my garage almost a year later! My excuse was all the landscaping and new house stuff I was doing... yeah, that's what I'm going with...

Got home this evening and am quite tired. We dug for diamonds this morning in Arkansas, the only diamond mine with naturally occurring diamonds in the Western Hemisphere.

Thanks for your kind words! It's sad that the old guys are disappearing so quickly. I want to ask my Dad a question about every day.

Thanks for the visits, guys! I'm beat, and behind on a lot of non-shed work. And a winter storm arriving overnight.

I have to say the Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta was great. My grand daughter wanted to go to the Johnny Cash museum in Nashville. I love his music but was not excited about the stop. It turned out to be one of my favorite activities.

It seems to me that the light in the painting the camera enough. In my garage I have to paint with a smaller amount of light.

Did you get any extra diamonds you can send to me?

Thank you. I have never had enough light to paint well with. That's my excuse for poor painting. Now I'm losing that excuse, but I can find another. Thanks for stopping by!

At least you're laughing! My diamonds went with my grand daughter. I want to retrieve one and mount it on a steel rod to make my own diamond marking tool. That's about as big as they are.

Thank you for visiting!

Farmer-

Whats up with your Signature..."I do it Daddy?"

Be interested to hear, and I am sure I am not alone.

Thanks for noticing! Drivesitfar is making a special chair for his disabled daughter's wedding. She has spina bifida but lets nothing stop her. He related this incident:

I DO IT DADDY has been her motto since i pushed the wheelchair to the van and let her climb into her baby seat when she was 1 or 2.

I found her attitude to be very inspiring and wanted to use that inspiring statement as my signature while she is preparing for her wedding. We could each be so fortunate as to have that level of motivation.

Nothing I can add.

Had a great little vacation with my son and 14 year old grand daughter. After my appointment in Houston things went south. Galveston. for the night. Then took the free car ferry east toward our destination of Huntsville Space Center. Huntsville Space Center Museum is great, go if you can! Next stop Atlanta

IMG_0629_zpsw8ylnfdf.jpg

Grand daughter selected her destinations. In Atlanta we toured CNN headquarters. 8 story escalator with no intermediate supports. Hmmm....

IMG_0627_zpsy7fyeh9u.jpg

Saw Robin Meade doing her show. I can't say anything else about that lady.

Then toured the Coca-Cola museum. Sure enough they had a V-81 machine like mine

IMG_0630_zpsintpoci3.jpg

I had a lot of fun

https://www.facebook.com/rob.cook.9889/videos/10211826913127457/

Impromptu effort to embarrass my grand daughter in the Coca-Cola gift shop. Clerk had fun too.

If you aren't laughing you need professional help, this is as good as I can do.

We then went to Nashville and enjoyed the Johnny Cash museum before dropping in to the diamond mine in Arkansas. Pictures are lacking.

Today there was work to do but late in the day I put a jack on my son's trailer. He had tried to weld it but was not satisfied with the results so old dad did it.

IMG_0644_zpswzkou4pu.jpg

They took my FJ home last night as his pickup brakes began growling as they arrived for our trip. He brought his trailer to take some free hay home. Pulled his pickup into my Skelly Garage but it's a four door and my disabled Dodge is on the lift. I shoehorned it in and will work on the brakes on the floor. If you recall I have two lifts and am working in the floor. Life of a lazy man.

Caught back up on your thread, looking good as always. It sure would be nice to get a few lifts around here!

Glad you are stopping in. Cokes are ten cents here, you know.

A great little vacation!

Thank you! We had fun. Typical American holiday, lots of windshield time, or wind chill time.

Andy, done deal.

Like your signature line! It's catchy!!

On the down side, knowing your daughter like we do, she will be happy with whatever you do and make you feel like a king in the process.

No pictures from the space and rocket center? I live just north of Huntsville and work at Marshall Space Flight center which is on the army base behind the space and rocket center. Lots of exciting stuff going on here getting ready for SLS. They just finished a new test stand that will stress test the main stage and other components of SLS.

Here's a cool picture I robbed off google of Enterprise in one of the other test stands.

Nice pics Andy. I was in Houston a few years ago and toured the Houston Space Center. I remember watching the moon shots in my childhood and finally got to see the Saturn V rocket. What a rush to think about strapping yourself on top of that thing and lighting it! :scared::scared::scared:

Great vacation!

Andy, was watching, "Handcrafted in America" and saw a broom maker making corn brooms. Very interesting process, was hoping it was you, but it was from down South somewhere. Going to have to try to trade you out of a broom. I turn pens and would find something to trade.

When things get too interesting I forget to take pictures :( Figure that one out! I would have loved to have worked in the space industry but with my dad working for Lockheed I knew all too well the instability of your company not being the low bidder in the next round. I wound up in a more stable industry, the oil business:willy_nil:willy_nil:willy_nil

Andy, Glad that you had a good trip. Hope that the weather is not too bad. Appears that you are getting rain (which is needed) but hope that it does become a big ice storm and cause a lot of damage.

Dwight

Thanks! We have had some ice, and rain, and some new stuff we aren't familiar with, MUD! I'm loving the mud, been too dry here too long. But I've been spending all day cleaning out feed bunks, feeding, and setting out hay. As well as working on get the the house build managed. No shop time.

Cheers!

As a kid we always lived near Air Force bases. I'd go out with my dad evenings and weekends when the emergency could stand a kid around. My goal was to be a Air Force pilot. That dream (as well as being an astronaut) was squashed by the need for corrective lenses. Had my eyes been good I would have pursued both courses and who knows? You never do what you don't try!

I gained new appreciation for Werner Von Braun during this trip. He had worked for the Nazis in order to develop rockets. His dream was space flight and he and his team developed a methodical pretty much foolproof scheme to make it happen. Each step of Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo were specifically aimed at success for the moon landing and return. Unlike Jules Verne who bet all on one untested vehicle.

Yep, no thrill like G forces.

ANDY: i posted up a few pictures on my thread and thought you might like one or a few for your thread too since i love your SIG LINE the past couple weeks a lot. i know you will change it some day, but it surely makes me smile every time i see that line.

cheers

Drives: I'm so glad you still are motivated by what your two year old daughter taught you so many years ago. How can we all not be impressed by her. She won't even let you fail :)

Andy, was watching, "Handcrafted in America" and saw a broom maker making corn brooms. Very interesting process, was hoping it was you, but it was from down South somewhere. Going to have to try to trade you out of a broom. I turn pens and would find something to trade.

I swap brooms for pens. I could use and extra pen, maybe ten panels.

Thanks for stopping in guys! Not much shop work, bad weather is keeping me outside. I always dreamed that with a nice shop I could stay inside and work when it was nasty out. Just a dream I guess.

How do I pm you with a request for a broom? Some day my 50x80 will get built and a new broom sweeps clean.

Andy, you speak of Jules Verne as if his ideas were less than grand. Nemo had faith.:spit:

I hope you didn't get all that nasty ice that we're seeing on the news. It looks pretty bad for a lot of folks around your area.
