Ahh very nice Andy.. The shelves look great. That bottle opener should last a lifetime.... boring was the wrong word I guess Haha, "uninteresting" was what I ment...:lol_hitti

:bounce: I seldom open bottles so I guess it should last a long time.

Enjoyed the opener video especially the end where you opened a cold one and a can of paint. How is the wood affixed to the opener?

Hey Shorty! Making that video kept me from casting a bandsaw guide.:headscrat But it's on the list.

Glad you enjoyed the video, it was pretty raw footage. Glad I didn't sing.

In the spirit of Forged in Fire it was just epoxied on. I have some rivets but aluminum bronze of marginal heritage can work harden quickly and make drilling tough. I can always get through it with a carbide end mill but was in a big hurry. I guess I forgot to show that. Pretty tired by the time I got to that point.

Thanks for watching.

I see a YouTube user named Taumac. How many of those do you think there are in this world?

Twenty-one shelves ready for finish sanding.

Andy: If you want to play with something that melts at lower temps, look into kirksite....we used to make drop hammer dies out of it. Melt temp is about 715F to 750F, depending on the exact alloy.

A form of Zamak. I have some zinc, I could just use it. I had never heard of Kirksite, thank you.

Lake Keystone west of Tulsa it at 110% of flood level. They're releasing 265,000 cubic feet per second, and rivers are feeding it 300,000 cfs. so a gain of 35,000 cfs. Per second. That's 0.8 acre feet per second accumulation. Here's the gate going into my lower field west of the house.

attachment.php

My house is 50 feet higher than the water. This is where the house was on the farm in 1959 when they built the dam. It has only flooded a few times.

Cows are somewhere, on their own.

I believe they said on the radio that releasing water at 165000 cubic feet per second, which they were releasing last week would put 3 foot of water on a foot ball field in 1 second. The dam is capable of releasing 1 million cfs.

Thats a lot of water.

I finally got to look at the whole bottle opener video yesterday. Then I had to go see what Perry did. By the time I was done with videos I had spent a couple of hours and learned a lot, or a little, but I learned so I don't consider it wasted time.

Andy, I enjoyed the bottle opener video.

Good to know the house is higher.

Dwight

Thanks, it is a bit long.

Only by luck I bought on the high ground. Too soon old, too late wise, glad to be lucky.

The radio had it wrong then, they are at 265,000 and going to 275,000 today. They are concerned about water coming in, it's been at 300,000 and with continued rains may increase. 215,000 square mile drainage basin, western Oklahoma and SW Kansas runoff gets here in a few days and everything is saturated. When it gets to the top of the gates they lose the ability to control it to limit downstream flooding. The million cfs is at the top of the openings, not far from topping the dam and washing it out. It is earthen filled.

I don't know how big a football field is, I think 300 ft by 150 ft playing area which is a little over a acre. 265,000 cfs is 6 acre feet per second.

They haven't been at 165,000 cfs since May 22, and are at 267,000 out this morning with 295,000 coming in.

It rose 8" overnight.

Lots of people are suffering around Tulsa and downstream. My farm has a few acres in the floodplain of Keystone Lake. The lake is now 2.6 feet above Flood Level. It has not been this high since construction in the late 1950's, closed in 1962 I think.

Gate into my lower fields at 10:38 AM Sunday (yesterday)

attachment.php

Same gate this morning at 8:21 AM. You have to count rails from the top.

attachment.php

Normal pool elevation is 23,600 acres. At this level it's at least 35,000 acres. A lot of water to rise this fast.

That was much work to open a well earned coke... :bounce: Well i enjoyed watching the video.

That is lots of water for a so short time. I hope people over there is not as stupid as here building their homes to close to the water. Every time we get some unusual amount of rain, say a ten year high or so there is stories in the news about people that get problems. :headscrat:

Hopefully the rain lets up by you (and me)!

There's going to be a lot of soybeans this year...

I know by experience that the bermuda grass will do fine after being submerged for a few weeks. I'm no farmer, I don't plant anything except discord any longer.

A lot of work for the result, but I did open a can of paint with it today.:lol_hitti Glad you enjoyed the video.

There are areas which repeatedly flood. When the rain quits the houses are inexpensive and it doesn't look like they will ever flood again. But they do.

Well the water is coming into the farm, not going out. So a long as they don't get hung up in brush when swimming they will be fine. I haven't seen them for a week so i think I know where they are. It doens't help to go look, they know they're OK. Our ground is not really too wet, other than the lake backing up on me, but we won't be baling hay any time soon. We like to bale prairie grass around the Fourth but growth is slow this year. It will really take off when the sun comes out.

Sorry, I replied to Dreaming Muscle. I do have lots of zinc, it would melt about the same. I'd have to check viscosity and meniscus height as they affect gravity flow.

Good idea!

****! Did I sing on a video? I'm so embarrassed.

That’s a lot of water.

Nowata is a town in NE OK. Now Nowata has a lottawata.

Here is the US Army Corp of Engineers web page for Keystone Lake.

http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/KEYS.lakepage.html

At the moment I'm posting this, inflow was 285,000 CFS and outflow was 275,000 CFS, so there's still a gain of 10,000 CFS.

And we keep getting rain here, and that all flows into the Arkansas River.

OK, now you've done it. You gave away my secret site. Now everyone will have all the information I have. I have noting left. I'm finished. Thanks a lot bud!

Andy: great to hear you are avoiding the tornados even if you are not missing all the extra rain.

great to see you making stuff at your shop and once you finish the shelving not only will that space be clean and ready for another project, but your gal will be able to have more inventory on her shelves at the Pharmacy.

enjoy your day and it's 70's and very little wind or sun here today so hopefully i'll get something done around here too.

for all of you that know 1/2 Cup please post a few good words on his Shed Downunder thread i think he still reads and or say a few prayers to cause he's having a tough go currently trying to get this Cancer out of his body. here's a link to his thread in case you are not a regular there.

The dam was releasing 165000 cfs when I heard that it would cover a football field in 3 foot of water 1 second. According to my math a football field is 300 foot by 160 foot equaling 48000 square feet. 48k x 3 is 144000. They might have included the end zones to make 165000.

I am a slow learner at math so I could be way off on the correct figures. And I only heard it once and could have miss heard it too.

Yeah, the news people are too good at reporting number either. But incoming is way down, release is down, and the lake is going down.

I've been working on making cast aluminum pipe, 1-1/2" OD, 1/4" wt on a challenge. A guy said I couldn't sand cast four of them and have them not leak for 30 min at 30 psi with antifreeze mix inside.

So I had to cast some plugs and machine them for o-rings.

attachment.php

This one's been on test for 5 hours at 90 psi.

No weeping anywhere except the other guy.

Good job on the tank Andy, nothing like stepping up to a challenge and blowing it out of the water. :)

Custom build cast aluminum coolant overflow tank...I should have put in a request for one of those long ago, sadly it is too late for this years tour but if you have an extra before next year I'd love to get on the list.

Must be nice to have those shelf cabinets done and out of the shop. Besides all the work they would take up a lot of space.

I've been watching your clips and that pipe came out great. What did you use for the core mold as that is a tricky bit of work for that length/size core.

Casting cast iron gears now! Serious business. Can't wait to see this one.

Yeah my avatar car has been residing in a carport for months so it's nice to have it back in the shop. The pharmacist was very happy to see the cabinets.

The core was a trial. Too long for sodium silicate so I tried a 1/4" copper tube for reinforcement. Had trouble getting it to cure. Finally drilled 1/16" holes every two inches and made a pressurized CO2 generator so I could feed through a hose into the tube. But the copper tube has taken aluminum every time, including all the misruns I drilled four pieces of copper (all from the scrap pile) and used them all.

The last pipe has been on test for two days now and sitting pretty at 89 psi.

Looking forward to seeing how the gear comes out.

The gear is trying.

After sanding the wood filler down it got some paint and a finish sanding.

attachment.php

I tried molding it twice today and failed both times. Came in to print as pulling plate to pull the sand against.

attachment.php

It's 102% of the gear so maybe it will hold the sand when I pull the pattern. I've not had good luck with that in the past, however.

I could 3D print one, and it would probably be strong enough but then I'd have to model it. But I thought the guy said he had one 3D printed. :headscrat

Have you thought about investment casting for the gear?

I have some 3D printed change gears on my lathe and I'm hoping they last so I don't need to move on to casting them (I'd probably go with investment casting so I can burn it out ahead of time).
