I have a Ridgid that I really like. Made in the USA and sold at Home Depot.

If I recall Sears still sells a nice close quarters one by Imperial Tool. It's #TC1050 and Made in USA. It's for the smaller stuff, cuts from 1/8 to a bit over 1/2 diameter.

Also as others have said, Ridgid makes a good one too. I think their Model 101 mini tube cutter goes from 1/4 to 1 1/8 diameter. I have that one too.

Both are great tools I've used them a lot for fabricating my own stuff and for plumbing in my own home.

Might also want to consider Superior Tool Co tube cutters, their stuff is quickly moving off-shore and most are becoming Taiwan made, but the tube cutters and a few other plumbing tools are still made in USA. I have one of their larger pipe cutters and it works great.

If not, maybe Elroy might enjoy one of these;

NO THANK YOU. Elroy has zero interest in a Chinese built cutter. :puke:

The Ridgid however is a viable choice but we note Ridgid specifically recommends against using them with stainless. That tells Elroy the wheel geometry and hardness may not exactly be what we're looking for.

Please continue with the recommendations

Stainless steel cutting is not mentioned in your original inquiry.

Elroy may be able to get different cutter wheels for different materials.

I know the replacement RIDGID cutter wheels for the midget cutters are not available for steel or stainless. The info is in their online catalog.

Never looked into different wheel types for the Rothenberger stuff. No need to, yet.

You must know that the notches allow a cut much closer to a flared end.

Well ya. The last time I checked I came away with the distinct impression that Elroy wasn't a complete dumb ***. A ***** maybe, but no dumb *** :bounce:

That smaller RIDGID is at least 2x the size of the Rothenberger Minicut.

That's good to know. Excellent input. Thank you kindly for the post

Mild steel capability would be a must. Stainless capability would be nice but it's not a deal breaker

And YES Stephen, Just like that. Elroy would say you're a member of the ***** club in good standing

Didn't mean to imply you are intellectually lacking... but I bet many people don't know what the notches are for.

I have not yet used a tubing cutter that won't cut mild steel- it wears out the cutters faster.

Stainless is a different animal.

My suggestion would be to find stainless a cutter wheel and see what size tubing cutter works with it.

Here are some pics of the Roth Mini next to the Ridgid close quarters cutter.

I've been using an Imperial TC 1050 for awhile. I don't know offhand who sells them new, as I have been finding mine a swap meets.

model 101

I thought it was the bigger one. I have a Ridgid that is closer in size to the Rothenberger you pictured but I also have the Ridgid you pictured.

http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/Midget-Tubing-Cutters/EN/index.htm

Rothenberger is good stuff though. The cutter is probably made in Spain.

Now sure what it's like now, but a few years ago, a Rothenberger tubing cutter and a Lenox tubing cutter were 100% identical, down to the packaging, except for the name. Both made in Spain.

Sears still does, at least last time I was there. I use that cutter the most, both around my home, and when doing work for friends and family. Usually when installing new shut-off valves under a sink or toilet and the existing 1/2 inch pipe end is distorted from the old compression fitting. Simply cut-off an inch and you're ready for the new valve.

Elroy didn't say stainless was a must only that it would be desirable. Your recommendations are nice. Nice and BIG.

Those things are like monstrous. Way too big physically.

Thank you for the link anyways!! We're looking at their other products

These Lenox tight space cutters just hit the market.

I believe Reed offers something similar (C cutter).

BUT, they're only suitable for copper tubing.

Elroy have you looked at the HT Mould #RC375 ratcheting tubing cutter. I have one and use it almost weekly for auto brake lines on chasis. had for many years still sharp.
