My order still says "In Process"

I'm going to wait and ride it out for a while.

Anyone have any suggestions for where I could get a similar set of wrenches if/when this one falls through? I am/was really excited to get a few larger sizes in this range.

I'm riding it out also, no change to my order status. If they magically find a few sets, maybe an agent with a sense of humor will reward those of us that left them alone rather than chatting them up.

Your best bet for something almost the same as these is Cripe Distributing. Apex/Danaher made these wrenches under multiple names, Armstrong, KD Tool, Allen, NAPA, and Craftsman Industrial. We used this family of wrenches when I was in the Army on our Abrams, Bradleys, LMTVs, etc.

Here's a couple of examples of the one's I'll buy if this doesn't pan out.

http://www.cripedistributing.com/allen-26-mm-12-pt-full-polish-combination-wrench-usa-20432.html

http://www.cripedistributing.com/kd-tools12pt-metric-combination-wrench-25mm-usa-63525.html

I have an example of this family of wrenches in 23mm already an it's very nice. Note that they list of the length of the wrenches in the description. Some sizes are available in either satin or full polish or both. The CM set is a good deal considering the larger ones in that package and that a set built from Cripe will be a mix of two to four different 'brands' with subtle variations.

Happy hunting.

I’m not understanding why some of you are still ordering these? They originally sold out and a couple of members got lucky ordering after they were removed from the original clearance page. Now people are getting cancellation emails due to unavailability, and some of you are still ordering? Keep in mind, they charge your card at time order, and not when they ship. You will have your money ******* for a few weeks before getting it back. Just a heads up!

You do get $20 of SYW points in the meantime though :bounce:

So do they immediately add $20 SYW points into your account after you place your order even if the item has not shipped?

Do they take back their $20 SYW points when your order get cancelled and money is refunded?

I am just curious how these will work...or is this like an opportunity to get $20 in points...

I purchased five Craftsman wall cabinets from Sears a few years ago that included SYW points, and I spent the points right away. A few days later the price dropped on the cabinets, so at my request, Sears did a price adjustment/credit for me, but calculated the spent SYW points into the adjustment. I only got a partial credit because of the spent SYW points.

I don’t recall if I got the points before or after the cabinets had shipped? I do know the cabinets shipped quickly after ordering though.

Thanks for posting this. What we need now is a "alternatives to the failed CM Industrial Large Wrenches" thread. This is a good start!

I don't know what ordering from SPD will do, but if it was Sears and you bought something that had bonus points, and those points were used, & then the qualify item was returned, then your account would go negative (or drop) by the amount of bonus points. Depending on the situation, I have read that some have had accounts closed. I have also read that Sears changed things, so that your refund on an item may be reduced if it would cause you to go negative.

They did with me, spent them since the expired 01/02/18.

A buyer-initiated return is a whole different animal from a canceled order where the item was listed as “in stock” when the order was placed. If they try to take those points back or reduce my refund (in the event that my wrenches are eventually cancelled), I’ll be pretty surprised.

Then again, this is Sears, the world famous rolling catastrophe...

While I agree "this is Sears, he world famous rolling catastrophe" I honestly do not think they can cancel the order, then try to reduce the refund when the points are already spent. If you pay using credit card (and you always should pay with cc for any online transaction for your protection), easy enough to file a complaint to the credit card company.

In this scenario, it is not the buyer returning the item, this is canceled order because they do not have the goods (and they are incompetent for continuing to take order online). It is amazing that they keep letting people placing order when clearly there is no more wrenches in-stock.

I think all they can do is to take the points back, and if you do not have enough, the balance will be negative.

I kinda regret not ordering a set, but tbh I have no use for them, and I do not collect tools - trying not to, but you all are making it harder haha...

I agree they will make negative adjustment to your points balance. This can potentially mess up other points you have coming or are about to use. On the other hand I have made a few returns that I earned points on and they only took back a dollar or two so it is inconsistent.

I just got hit with a -$100 from the christmas tree deal that they decided to change after the fact so I am not too happy with syw at the moment.

Here's some alternatives in even larger sizes :willy_nil (I was looking for more comparable sizes, but found these instead), obviously not US-made but have mostly good reviews (just a few complaints about the finish):

Harbor Freight:
$55 ($44 with 20% coupon) SAE Jumbo Combination Wrench Set - 6 Piece - 1-3/8 in., 1-1/2 in., 1-5/8 in., 1-3/4 in., 1-7/8 in. And 2 in.
$55 ($44 with 20% coupon) 6 Piece Metric Jumbo Combination Wrench Set - 35, 38, 41, 45, 48, And 50mm
$90 ($72 with 20% coupon) 4 Piece Super Jumbo Combo Wrench Set - 2-1/8 in., 2-1/4 in., 2-3/8 in., 2-1/2 in.

Northern Tool:
$60 Klutch Jumbo SAE Combination Wrench Set — 6-Pc. - 1 3/8in., 1 1/2in., 1 5/8in., 1 3/4in., 1 7/8in. and 2in.
$130 Klutch Super Jumbo SAE Combination Wrench Set — 4-Pc. - 2 1/8in., 2 1/4in., 2 3/8in. and 2 1/2in.
(They oddly don't seem to have a jumbo metric set.)

Great photo from the Super Jumbo set for scale: :scared:

Those HF wrenches would do just fine for 99% of people -- how often are those sizes even used?

Interestingly, I can find NO sets (except on ebay for 2-3X the SPD failed sale price) that mimic the CM Large wrench deal. Nowhere -- not even HF or Northern. Weird. Also having difficulty finding individual wrenches that cumulatively would make up a completer set like the CM deal offered.

maybe.

but if you really need those monster sizes, i bet having one fail is a big deal, either because something expensive isn't running, or, even worse, something expensive isn't running in the middle of no-where . . . . . .

Agreed. If you're a regular or heavy user of such tools, you need a different set.

But....I'll bet there are a lot of poorer farmers/ranchers that use these Chinese tools regularly!

I'm trying to decide how long to wait before cancelling. I don't want to get caught up in Sears going out of business and going through the CC company for a refund.

Though skeptical, I finally bought into the idea that the wrenches really might be back in stock, and so I ordered another set to possibly help out another forum member in case he still didn’t receive his. I let the order ride for about a week, then cancelled. Because of the Xmas holiday, it took 4-5 days to finally see the refund on my card. Sad thing is, my order still shows “Pending” as of five minutes ago.

Stop holding out hope. It will stay pending until you ask them about the status. They will send it to their "back end" team who will cancel the order and return your money. There aren't any left so get your money back and let this thread die.

I was browsing on Cripe's for a replacement set and this caught my eye:
http://www.cripedistributing.com/kd-tools-12-pt-combination-wrench-1-5-8in-63152-usa.html

What takes a 1-5/8 fastener? Probably something with hydraulics but can anyone think of a specific example?

One Amazon reviewer of a 1 5/8" wrench mentioned that they used it for a trailer hitch ball. (After looking at multiple such wrenches' reviews, that's the only one that mentioned a specific use in that size. One other just mentioned unspecified 'assembly'.)

The 1 5/8 wrench is handy if your working on hydraulics for dash 16 hoses on some fittings

I've run into 1 5/8 on brass water valves, and on one particular occasion was pretty happy to have that size Supercombos in the garage.
