So I pulled the hardware out of the tumbler that I put in there last night. Since after 12hrs seems to be the stopping point for the max that the resin will need to remove most rust off the hardwares, it seems pointless to continue.
Here is the before photo,

Here is the after.

These hardware has been cleaned before in the past but wasn’t treated. So they got some surface rust on them from just sitting. I’m going to bag these hardware to protect them from the environment til I can come up with a treatment plan.

Here is the next batch of bolts after a soak in purple power over night and rinsed and dried with a torch.

We will see how they look tonight. I’m curious if this will take the paint off the bolts? These are bolts from engine disassembly in the past. Hence the blue paint.

Unsure on the grit level Cody, but anything finer should get in the threads easier than the larger media.
I hear what you’re saying, I almost just went with sand since the current media are 1/4” triangles basically. But seems sand is too soft, so I went with the silicon carbide grit based on reviews. We will see how that works out soon.

It is a small tumbler. My mix came in small premaesured packets probably a few tablespoons. For your tumbler I would fill it with fasteners add water and then maybe a half cup or so of media and see how it does.

So regarding the painted bolts, I left them in the tumbler for almost 24 hours since I was busy with other stuff.

Here is the before.
IMG_1383.jpeg

Here is the after,
IMG_1392.jpeg

The tumbling got all of the paint off the bolts. They are ready for the next grit of tumbling.

My next round of tumbling is mostly washers, but I threw these pipe fittings in the bunch.
IMG_1393.jpeg

I got a bunch of pipe fittings in the same condition so I’m looking forward to seeing these turn out.

That all cleaned up nice!
I agree, they did clean up nicely so I figured another 12 hours would help some more. A lot of these pipe fittings are old USA made and they are in good shape, just rusty from sitting for a long time.

Here is what they looked like this morning, I found the forth piece!

IMG_1400.jpeg

They don’t look much different, but figured they might of cleaned up a little more.

I also decided to clean the media. I had test cleaned some small samples and it seems acetone does a good job. I really need to get some strainers. But shuffling the media in the barrel and letting gravity drain the acetone to one end of the cookie sheet, allowed the majority of the dirt/grease to settle out of the media.

IMG_1402.jpeg

I am going to let the media and barrel air dry before I put the next batch in there.

But here is the pile that’s already been cleaned.

Need to clean up my work area.

Cody, your hand truck caught my eye. I have the same one and just eliminated it's only flaw -- tubed tires. I have held off replacing the tires and fought with new tubes several times. Recently the older tube started leaking and each time I used the hand truck I filled the tire. When it started going flat in less than a day I thought about replacing the tube. To make the job easier, I carefully removed the push nut (bent needle nose pliers work great on these) and wheel from the hand truck. It appears I was about to shoe another dead horse.
Hand Truck Tubed Tire.jpg
Jeff's River delivered a pair of airless tires and rims with 1/2", 5/8" and 3/4" bearings (I was too lazy to measure the axle). Turns out a 16mm deep socket isn't useless. It fit over the 5/8" axle and allowed me to tap the push nut tight against the wheel bearing.
Hand Truck Axle Washer.jpg
No more flat tire worries on the hand truck. I do have two brand new tubes so maybe I'll look at the Gorilla cart next.

I was going to swap out the tires for airless ones too, but a neighbor borrowed the hand truck one day and said the tire broke on him and so he replaced it with a new air tire. So I just leave the air ones on and keep topping off the air each time I use it.

That's a serious driveway!
This is my mother in law’s childhood home. So it’s something she’s dealt with her whole life. Father in law is 82 I think, and usually he shovels the snow. But this time I did it due to the ice and depth of the snow. We keep telling him not to do the snow but he likes the exercise as he says. I just want to keep him from falling on his *** and bust a hip. I’ve offered to move them to a smaller home that’s easier to keep up but they refuse. So I just go up there and do the work, hopefully karma treats me well when I age.

My dad was the same way. You couldn’t walk up his driveway after a snowstorm, let alone plow it, so my wife and I would hand shovel it after every snow event. Best thing was that he was adamant that he could drive right up to it, didn’t need no damn shoveling to get to his house. I really hope I still have his fire when I’m that old!

Yeah, SWMBO complains I have too many but when they save us hundreds of dollars the noise lessens. However, when I suggest she get rid of something, crickets…. :ROFLMAO:
Oh we’re dealing with that now. We have a closet in this house that has 20 or so purses and 30 pairs of shoes that has not been used in the 9 years we’ve been here. Cricket was louder in this house.

I usually fill one contractor bag a week, I prefer 2 but depending on my task of the week if I’ll get the two done. I’ve already purge my closet, but I think there’s going to be another purging taking place in the near future. The bathroom is another place that will be purged. Seems with my wife and 3 girls in the house, there was a collection of makeup, soap, hair products, and who knows what else has been building in the cabinets I don’t dare to enter. I entered said cabinets last night and realized there’s a lot of old unused products in there. I think there’s will be a contractor bag full of stuff coming out of those cabinets.

Had to modify the car trailer ramps to allow me to use the winch and roll the heavy stuff onto the trailer. Just sandwiched some 3/4” plywood on the ramp. Worked like a champ!

IMG_2044.jpeg

Figured I’d better take a before picture incase I loose it on the ramp.
IMG_2045.jpeg

And up on the trailer!
IMG_2046.jpeg

Got most stuff on the trailer to take it over to the other garage tomorrow morning.

Hopefully I’ll have this garage 80% empty by tomorrow night.

I am so jealous of you right now! My wife will rejoice when the old shop looks like this!
lol, your wife would be happy of the empty garage and my wife is highly unsettled by the new garage being overfilled. Course I tried explaining to her that I wasn’t able to organize things going in the new garage but it doesn’t matter to her.

Nonetheless, I got to get the house empty now before the weekend due to change of plans after talking to the realtor. Before I moved my clothes over to the other house, I purge roughly 9 of those 13 gallon trash bags from the closet and it all went to goodwills. I’m sure someone will be upset I got rid of a shirt they gave me for Christmas or birthday but I had too much.

Remember when I said I was making 4 piles of my stuff at the old place?
1) Move it to Prescott….
2) Sell it……
3) Give it away to someone who needs it…..
4) Throw it away or donate it…..
This got to be #3, I‘m giving it to a friend who needs it more than I do. He’s coming over this weekend to get it running so he can haul water for his house.DC3A9F50-1B1F-4FC2-BA12-11CCC014F9CD.jpeg

I agree, I initially thought I had more time to do those 4 steps. Then when I was told we need to clear it out, that's when it became a shove it on the trailer and deal with it at the other garage step. Alot of the shelves I had at the old garage was to disappear, but it was easier to roll those moving shelves onto the trailer instead of unloading the shelves and then sort them out down the road. Alot of it was material but as I stood in the garage looking at everything, I decided I am going to toss a lot of it.
Matter of fact I tossed a bunch of cabinet knobs and little cabinet Knick knack on Friday, and my wife was asking for one of those items in the box of stuff. Sorry honey, we have to go to the store and get one or we can just use a piece of stick to hold the shelve in the medicine cabinet up. Luckily, we found that little brass nub that goes in the hole and holds the shelve up and I was able to remove the stick I had just placed in the hole. :ROFLMAO:

Oh, and scrap metal has found a home with a scrap guy. Matter of fact I'll probably make another pile of metal while sorting the new garage for him to come get. Just no use for it right now.

Starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Was able to get everything packed and out of the second floor of the house. A lot of stuff was taken out already and sadly the garage at the other house is just about at full capacity. The half of the garage where the camaro was to go is now full of furniture. Today I just need to finish packing three rooms, the laundry room (which is mostly stuff that's going in the trash and cleaning supply.), the computer room (again a lot of it should go in the trash), and get the kitchen packed and cleared out. Then tomorrow I got a young guy coming to help pack everything onto the trailer and unload at the other house. We should have the house cleared out by tomorrow afternoon and then it's all about cleaning and throwing any trash away. I also have to clean the yard up cause the realtor is coming on Monday to take pictures. Apparently, they rather have empty homes these days to stage the house via AI for photos online.

Once the house is cleaned for photography, I got a little break to relax one afternoon and then it's on to setting up the other house and garage. Plus, repairs needed that was found during the home inspection and have the house that's going on the market professionally cleaned.

It's a lot.
