I get Millstone whole bean at the Hy-Vee. You can mix flavors, which I do, but 'foglifter' is always the base. I'll add some Italian or Espresso roast to it, as I see fit. Grind it fresh every couple days and brew a mug at home to take for the commute. At the office, however, I am only provided Folgers. It's okay, so long as the water is filtered, copious amounts of grounds are used, and it comes out hot. Seems to get better as it sits through the day, too.

Home roast, baby. I'm surprised all you do-it-yourserlfers buy factory-roasted coffee.

Look at it this way. A coffee roaster is a new toy to play with! And it's one you can go nuts on, including PID loops, gas fired, etc.

I think I just might think about doing what you suggest. Never thought about doing my own. I drive an hour to find a roaster.
I mean as one poster said, geez there are 1000s of things to be obsessed about and get good at, so why not...LOL

I'm sure people disagree with me but the best coffee is the kind made from fresh ingredients. I have a glass pot and filtered or distilled water, heated and run through a French press or even one of the old all-glass percolators.

If the coffee is made fresh and not burnt, then the acid doesn't take the place of the taste of the coffee.

I also like espresso coffee, especially French roast, where the coffee has been allowed to grow fully ripe, then slowly roasted. I have a friend at work who roasts his own coffee and it tastes good. Strong, but full of flavor.

I drink coffee for the taste, not the caffeine. most of what I drink now is decaf, so the c9offee and the caffeine don't wake me up in the morning. A good night's sleep is better than that.

ARGH! Ditch the percolator. It works by boiling the coffee over and over again, but coffee should never get over 198F or so. French Press is a nice touch, though. A pain to clean, but man do they make rich coffee.

A good friend of mine is a coffee roaster. He hands me a bag of a diffrent type of bean every other week. Love the variety.....this week it's Costa Rica Tarrazu, next week some organic Dominican :)

Tarrazu is a nice cup. Normally I find Costa Ricans too sterile, but I like that one.

Maxwell House - raised on it with milk 'n sugar since I was 5 --- 1 pot a day minimum, much more when it's cold nasty weather.

I drink almost any specialty brand / flavored roast as a change on my off time / WE's. The wife just recently got us setup with the coffee press thing and a hand grinder. I don't have time to put that much work into a cup of coffee on a regular basis, but MAN!, when we do make it that way, what a difference!!
