I have a set of collets that came in a pile.of stuff, and no luck trying to identify them. Top flat of cone is about 3/4" across, bottom of cone is 1" across, cone is about 13/16 with last 1/8" vertical (no taper). The ones I have run from 3/8-3/4, by 32, with two 64s in as well (pic is missing 7/16, but think it is on the workbench). Bottom of collet is between 1/8-1/4" thicker than the marking (larger collets have a thinner lower wall).

Last picture is of assorted stuff in the same boxes. Boxes are simply fiberboard woth brown taped edges, no markings. One tube is marked Johnson EM 48, both tubes only accept the 1/2" collet.

All of this measuringcwas done slap-dash with a tape measure, so if you have an idea but the numbers are slightly off, happy to reverify with calipers/micrometer.

Lurker here. I have some of these too that came with my Logan lathe, though I think they are unrelated. I wonder if they are part of a valve grinding tool.
Hopefully someone knows.

Several types of collets made over the decades. Yours are somewhat similar to ER collets but are different. Hard to tell what type they are without more precise measuring as the taper angle is important and varies between different types. Everybody thought they had the best design even if it was different. What does matter is that without the holder they're designed for they're almost useless to you. I suppose a toolmaker might machine the holder if they had nothing else to do but that's not very likely either.

If you can take better measurements, caliper is acceptable, of just one collet it would be easier to determine what type they were and easier to find someone that wanted to buy them. I wouldn't toss them until you know what they are. Some collets, tool holders, for some machinery makes are rather scarce and command a premium for an original set. Toss them and you'll always wonder if you threw out several hundred $ you didn't want to investigate. JMO.

Agreed. Will grab a caliper and get some.more details. The odd part on these is both material, as well as the small ring around the base, compred to most I have seen.
