I never knew such a thing existed. I just googled and found images from several big box brands.
Perhaps it's a conspiracy in the US to sell additional tools?

PS...is it still paranoia if they really ARE out to get you?

Good question. I was remodeling my house when I saw my first one, probably here on Garage Journal during my lurking days.

I can see that being a fantastic tool for a trim carpenter, but the saw would be too small and lack power for anything bigger I'd think.

For me, I'll stick to my Delta Contractor's Saw and separate miter saw.

Don't ask.
Interesting idea but not sure how I'd like it. Either the miter saw would be too low and heavy or the table saw would be to high and small. Also goes against my desire to have more tools.

There houses in Europe are far smaller than those in the U. S. That's why Felder and many others make combination machines which are everywhere in Europe and specialty items here in the U. S. They have no space so the put everything into one package.

i checked out some videos. interesting concept but poor execution I think. very bulky design and the tablesaw part is way to tiny to be useful for much.

Concur !

Ryobi RTMS1800 (The dark gray piece on top is the "table". The blade comes up through the bottom. Very limited height.)

I saw an interesting video the other day. The guy is building with rough sawn "full dimension" lumber, including 6x6 and 1x12. A 12" sliding miter saw can not cut a 6x6 in one pass. Likewise the 12" sliding miter saw can not cut a 45 on a 1x12 board.

What sort of regulation?

I don't remember exactly, but I believe it has to do with the blade not retracting for the table saw part, or maybe the guarding.

Basically, the saws fail some part of typical safety guidelines for table saws (or miter saws or both).

This had popped in my head when I helped a friend install laminate in her condo. I had to carry the miter and table saw up the stairs and had wondered if a combo unit existed.

So are Europeans slicing themselves all over or does our government think we are too stupid to use them?

I work in a major home improvement store. people are defiantly too stupid to use them. most "contractors" are not even able to figure out how a loading zone works, or how to put something they don't want back where they got it, or how to look at a display item instead of opening the new package, or how to turn off a water faucet when they are done washing their hands....etc etc etc.

at best it would suit trim carpenters. you wouldn't likely start ripping 4x8 sheets goods with it.
it looks bulky, heavy and cumbersome.
I'll stick to miter saws and a portable table saw on the job site. there's many times we're using miter saws & don't need a table saw .

Jesus, those things look-like something you'd see on a Saturday Night Live or Monty Python skit, lopping-off limbs at every use! Kinda-like what happens to The Black Knight during "In Search of the Holy Grail."

"No man shall pass!"

I am thinking the Mafell Erika saw falls in this category as well. This looks pretty slick, first part of video shows it in use

You used to be able to purchase Flip Saws in the USA.
The ELU ones were sold in the USA, I think after Black & Decker bought ELU.
Every once in a while they turn up on Craigslist or Ebay.
At some point B&D stopped selling the saws, and I don’t think you can get parts and accessories without ordering them from Europe.
The saws were still being sold in the UK under the Dewalt brand at least up until recently, and I think the design was mostly the same, as were the accessories.
The likely reason B&D stopped selling the saws was cost and versatility.
For the same proce, or probably less, you could purchase a portable Dewalt table saw, and a Dewalt miter saw, and two people could work at the same time on a jobsite, without having to convert the saw back and forth, or stop for each other.
