Common Venting

I would like to add a natural gas heater to my attached garage. I've done a little research and learned the term common venting. Is it possible for the heater to share a vent with my water heater?

The vent must be separate from the furnace

Now you can vent both together if they are both 80+ efficient and going into a chimney, however check your local code on this

Common venting won't work with what you currently have. Is there a particular reason you want it common vented?

Thanks for the information. I was hoping to combine vents to minimize the number of penetrations in my roof.

Side wall venting can be an option ?

as long as its a power vented, OR exhaust fan is attached to the b vent pipe.

That is a 3” vent and no your cannot add anything to it. Your best bet is to look at Direct Vent Wall Furnaces. You then have the option for side wall venting. I use Rinnai’s

he can get a power vented water heater? that is a side wall vented application also. tankless water heater is what you are talking about that you have?
