OSB is not airtight and drywall is cheaper.

Essentially, if you have 12" joists, you need 11-1/2" of insulation in there.

Will have to look into if that is reasonable...

OSB is 30% cheaper than drywall in my neck of the woods, and 100% easier to work with. Drywall is not airtight either, unless you finish it. I spray foam between my OSB joints- much easier than taping and finishing drywall.

I don't see how foaming OSB joints is any easier... ugh.

Anything over a single smallish room (say, 12 x 12 x 8), I'll hire out the drywall. No point in wasting my time.

1st- I am not going to worry about heating the downstairs right now. That is not a major concern. I am going to go with the sunstream like forced air diesel/kerosene as a temporary solution. Only $180 for a 75K BTU one.

The Sun Stream model actually uses a high pressure spray to atomize the fuel for less soot, less smell, and less CO and CO2. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
