Just picked up this makita 2400 compressor last week after my 15 year old craftman died. Big improvement!

My old Speed Aire

17hp, 3 phase
51cfm at 150psi
never a want for air.

Sadly no 3 phase at the house so I sold that one and got a pretty nice Quincy, still a 2 stage, but only does about 23cfm at 125

need to take some pics of it.

now them some stacks.. haha.
pretty cool man.
Question though. Does anyone really know if your compressor has to work harder to fill up the tank when you have extensions like that on the intakes?

That would be entirely dependent on the diameter of the intake stacks and the length of run, as well as the number of elbows, and how much resistance the filters add. It's not a cut and dry equation. I know guys using 3" pipe and K&N filters to feed their scuba compressors.

Ok..dumb question time, what's the purpose of the long stacks? I've seen the solberg filter/silencers with the elbows, etc to cut down the intake noise..it's the same with putting the stacks high? or some other purpose i'm missing?

Where did you find that intercooler with 3/4" threads on it? That looks like a viable option for many depending on cost. I have seen smaller units with 3/8 or 1/2" threads, but nothing like that.

It took a lot of Ebay searches to find that oil cooler, it has 1"NPT threads and was about $50.
Seems to work pretty good, inlet to cooler gets HOT and outlet is only about 100F.
I have a 240v fan wired to the mag starter on the back side so it comes on when the compressor is running.

Say Morrisman, My Dad used to run generators in that same country just to give them people lighting. So just what are you doing with that much air capacity????? Couldn't be for a blast cabinet uh!:confused:

8.6CFM and 5,200 psi.

Nice, I've got a Bristol Pneumatics in my garage that I am trying to get back in service. It's 5000 psi and 18 CFM with the included 15hp motor, but I'm going to swap it out to a 7.5hp motor and it should be around the same output as your Mako.

Is yours used for a dive operation or something else?

Sounds nice! Good idea in going with the 7.5 HP. I am really happy about how quiet the Mako is. I use it for SCUBA and a little paint ball stuff. Seems like I fill my friends tanks more than my stuff... glad to provide the capability; small town, wanted to be self sufficient.

Yo HAP!

Pls elaborate on the second compressor. I am curious on what that PVC like pipe that is connected on the blue hose. What is that?

Thanks.

Rob,

that was my prototype desiccant dryier design. The final version is the same concept except it is made out of 2.5" galvanized pipe with a 2.5" glass port on each end from MSC that I can monitor the color change as I use it. Works awesome and I find that I only have to reguvinate the desiccant about every 6 months. I run a blast cabinet, air/hyd press, powder coat sys and your typical air tools. The final one is mounted on a verticle plane. Oh yeah, and I added a small refrigirated drier I got off of CL to run my Darex end mill sharpener.

Here is my new find a Quincy 251CP80VCB, 5 hp, low, low hours, 2006 model. Paid $800 for it. Is that a fair price?

In addition to my old reliable speedaire is this small unit that I picked up at a garage sale for 40 bucks. It's really unique - has the motor and pump in the same cast housing. It's so quiet you can hardly tell it's running - everything is mounted on springs.
The company is Copeland - maybe a dental compressor? I saw one almost like it on Ebay.

Picked up a "new" Compressor a few weeks ago. it would build pressure but takes a very long time. the last owner bought it used in 82. it is a http://www.saylor-beall.com/home.php

We got new valves and gaskets and got the valves out yesterday, they were caked up with sanding dust. Hoping to get it back together this weekend.

This the #2 Champion compressor of the pair that came out of a repair shop, I bought the first one last October and I'm picking this up today.

Hades, I scored one similar a while back, same game, I fixed it up a little, caked also from body dust. I use 2 units, the old clunker (actually both) ha,,, but the one like you have is the secondary or high demand unit. It rarely runs, its a backup mostly and additional air storage with a pump and motor on it. Got a big tank, I set the kick on slightly lower than the kick on the main, if system air goes lower than that on it comes, mainly with a little sandblast or blowing underground pipe out, occasionally it comes on if a guy sands or wire wheels long enough or multiple user, etc.

Right now we don't use a lot of air, I run a air screwdriver a little and a small impact. But I am getting ready to add bedlinners to my main business and want to have this ready when that is.

I have a 125psi craftsman and a 155 CH Iron force, and will pair the "new" unit with one of them, Looking like the 155 unit. as the Craftsman is pressureizing the compressor case and may not have much more life in it.

I just got this Sanborn, have not had the chance to use it a whole lot yet.

Behind it is a 60 gallon Cman tank from 1997 (complete with a blown up
oil-free pump).

I have the two of them hooked together, it does take a little time to fill up...but once full, it seems to be good for quite awhile. With 120 gallon capacity, it better be :) Right now they are connected with rubber air hose, but maybe later I'll set up some manifolds and plumbing. One thing at a time.

That's a lot of air you have there now and you didn't pay the price for a 120 gallon Air Compressor:rocker:

****, just scored another Kellogg 331

I wasn't looking but it was for a fair price against a customer's bill. Not that I needed it, I already have a 331 undergoing top end overhaul. I am a case-study in how tool and machinery collection can become an addiction...Athol this, Champion that, Quincy this, Prentiss that...Reed this, Dayton that...I already had too many vices, now too many compressors...officially. Maybe? I gotta get some pix.
