Campbell Hausfield makes an extended drain kit that will put the valve at the bottom side of the tank. I got mine at Tractor Supply, but they should also be available at Walmart.

Hi, This is my Kellogg model 331. If anyone knows what is supposed to go in the bottom threaded hole in this side cover please let me know. Thanks to those who have responed so far.

If'n yer referring to the pipe plug at the bottom left, it is the

oil drain plug. I usually extend this port with some pipe and a

valve to make oil changes easier/cleaner. The viewing port shows

oil level. Keep the oil level in the middle of the "eye".

Do you know what the blow off valve is rated?

Was able to remove the blowoff valve the other day. I think it's original(it's the same Kellogg Blue) and it says 200 psi on it.

Seems a bit high if that's the tanks rated pressure. Shouldn't the blowoff be rated under the tank pressure?

Regardless it won't be run that high. 175 psi absolute maximum. Once I get the correct compressor rebuilt i'll turn the cutout switch up. Right now with the 325TV on there, i don't think that old Delco motor will want to run the larger unit up to those kinds of pressures.

Drawing up plans on 1/2" copper supply lines now. Plans are to use a "lead-in" 1/2" air hose(with 1/2" fittings) from the compressor to the piping on the wall, as the compressor is on an old pallet that's on top of an antique wheeled "platform" to move it around in the shop if need be. When running it shakes a bit, so i don't' want to run solid copper pipe to it, or it'll crack.

Right now there's an iron pipe 90* into a ball valve and an old 1/2" Wilkerson water separator. From there it will go to the 1/2" lead in hose then to copper pipe mounted on the wall.

Ordered a new 1/2" Wilkerson Regulator yesterday that should be here tomorrow.

With this nice weather i think a few PTO days from work are in order to get this both started and finished. :D

I think he's talking about the viewing port.

It looks like the glass is missing from the photo. Either that or it's very clean and clear.

If it is indeed missing I'd see if you can locate another one, because without that, there is no way to see your oil level.

My Kellogg 325TV i just picked up has the same sight glass and a fill plug at the top of the crankcase. My antique Kellogg A320A has an actual steel dipstick that threads into the oil fill hole. I personally don't favor one over the other, but if the sight glass breaks, it's annoying to repair because you can't use the compressor until it's fixed as the oil will just pour out.

I am very happy with the IR Garage Mate compressor for my wrenching applications. The only tools I've run with it so far are my IR 2135TiQMax 1/2" impact wrench, my Milton tire inflator and a blow gun.

IR does offer a 30 gallon model but the tank is horizontal, but it still runs on 120V.

FYI - Puma offers a 20 Gallon model very similar to the IR Garage Mate that runs on 115V/230V ... and is cheaper.

I'll probably end up with the Puma. Local Farm Supply store has them in stock.

CC Points + no shipping and lower tax out there ftw.

You are right on the blowoff valve. it should be rated under the tank wp. but 175 sound great :)

Yes. I think it is fairly quiet when compared to my dad's CH vertical oil less electric. I will take a video and post the noise while it is running for people to help me with knowing if it is on par for noise or not.
Is that a 20 gallon Puma? The Motor/Pump looks just like the ones on my IR Garage Mate ... they must come from the same factory.

Yes it is a 20 gallon. Here is a video of it in operation. There are very few videos of the puma from when I was researching them.

Hey guys, I picked up one of these the other day for out in the garage:

http://www.lowes.com/pd_53661-1126-...RL=/pl__0__s?Ntt=kobalt+compressor&facetInfo=

It won't start with pressure in the tank - the lights dim, the motor hums and then it kicks the breaker... bad unloader or check valve? I don't really want to take it back for an exchange since it weighs 178 lbs...
Don't mess with it, take it back. The reviews at Lowes on this model are pretty bad.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning that way... I don't get why the little V-twin one got great reviews and this one isn't when they're both made by Campbell Hausfeld. And they don't sell the V-twin anymore. I should have gotten one when I had the chance...

So can anybody recommend a good ~30 gallon upright belt drive compressor for about 4 bills or so?

This guy? Does anybody know if this is made by CH?

Hey Rickenbackerman, check out the deals at your Tractor Supply Store. I would be tempted to buy the 60 gallon one. I know you said 4 bills, but...... If not then the 27 gallon isn't bad either.

Here is the webpage link...

Thanks, I checked out TSC earlier today... I don't have the room for a 60 gal, and the 27 gal looks like it's direct drive (something I don't want).

ARGH! Didn't mean to hijack the thread, maybe I'll start a new one...

I'm with ya on that - this will be my 2nd compressor for out in the garage - the little frankenpressor in my shop is back on page 57 at the top (converted 33 gallon oil (air) less)...

edit - I just realized you responded to that post, too. We've come full-circle! LOL

Can anyone help me…..? I picked up a LeRoi – Dresser series 400, serial # 453X13446, 2 Stage air compressor. I paid $150 for it at a machine shop auction. It came with a smaller size tank maybe 20-30 gal. (I have a large tank I’ll use with it) I’m looking for the spec’s on the pump and any info you can tell me about the pump. Did I get a good pump and for a good price? What cfm and max psi is it ? Any info would help. I plan to use it in my shop (if I ever complete the shop) . It has a 7.5 hp 3ph motor I don’t have 3ph but I do have a 7hp 1ph motor I’ll swap out. The pump has a paper inspection tag on it looks like the date says 1971 or 1975 hard to read but for sure from the 1970's. Anyone have a link to a manual would be great!!!
Here’s a link to the exact pump I have but not the actual one (I don’t know how to post pictures :( ) http://www.wismet.com/buy/detail.cfm?inventoryid=8827

Picked this up at a flea market 10 or so years ago. I have it rigged to fill my main tank but it works and runs at 90 psi. Anyone know what an oldie like this is worth? The only thing not original are 4 bolts and it's missing a toggle switch.

I need to replace my worn out compressor and find that I can afford the Quincy 5hp 2 stage 60 gal compressor or the IR 5hp 2 stage with an 80 gal tank. I use the compressor for painting, impact tools and a small, little used blast cabinet. Anyone have any input as to which one to buy?

Thanks
Tom
