I realize that this a site mainly geared to work done in garages most of it probably auto related. In time I may be using my compressor for projects related to this. But for now it will probably be used for home improvement projects interior and exterior. The compressor I have is the one I mentioned in another thread,it delivers 5.7cfm@90 psi.Thinking of buying a 50 footer for starters. Now the question. What type of air hoses are you guy's using, rubber, plastic, any of the polymers that have come out?Which manufacturer,Goodyear,GreenLine etc. I would prefer to buy Canadian or American made.I have heard rubber is great but can be heavy on the arm after awhile and I have bad shoulder.
Thanks for your help!

I don't have one, but try looking at flexzilla.. it's light and super flexible even at -40 degrees. I'm probably going to pick some up at some point

My Goodyear rubber hose has worked well for me but I'm def going to check out the Flexilla when it takes a dump. Stay away from PVC if you ever want to try coil it up or make any attempt of putting it away when cold.

I've been using Goodyear black rubber hose for years, picked up some Goodyear orange Pliovic a couple years ago and haven't used anything else since. Both are US made and available at Horror Freight.

Thanks to all of you that have responded so far.I hear what you are saying about the Goodyear rubber hoses.I have visited their website and it's overwhelming how many choices you have in rubber alone.I live in British Columbia, Canada. So our prices are higher than you fellas down south.I even looked at online from the USA but the shipping kills you.I got a quote from a distributor not a retailer even and here is some prices
#1. Goodyear Gorilla not sure of the max psi on this one 3/8 50ft 1/4 NPT ends $176.00 before taxes

#2. Goodyear Horizon 3/8 50ft 1/4 NPT ends 200psi burst rated $43.00
before taxes

#3/ Goodyear Horizon 3/8 50ft 1/4 NPT ends 250 psi burst $48.00 before taxes.
So you fellas that are using Goodyear could you tell me what model/make you use.

Also I have a few more questions regarding the compressor I finally bought.Should I keep them on this thread or go back to my orignal thread on which compressor to buy?I think I wore out my welcome on that thread and it might get ignored.
I bought a like new used Campbell Hausfeld 26 gallon oil lubricated vertical compressor 120 volt, and again I think it's 5.6 or 5.7 at 90 psi.
Many Thanks

You don't want a rubber hose for any interior work in your house, or on a ladder. They leave marks, twist up, knock over stuff, and are heavy. Everybody in the trade has switched to polyurethane air hoses.

poly dont last long in a GARAGE.. Is this the interior design journal?
all i use is the black rubber goodyear hose nothing lasts as long.
have best of both worlds buy 100 feet of a GOOD poly hose for outside and enough Good rubber hose to reach all parts in the garage

Rubber hose is a BAD choice for that use.

Whats the issue with Polyurethane in a garage?

Most of what I have seen has a 3 to 5 year warranty, so it can't be too awful.

i drag my hose through the house all the time and have never had it leave a mark. it's a red rubber if that matters. nor has it knocked anything over. if you properly coil and unwrap, i don't see how this would be an issue. mine lie flat and i've never had a problem.

poly has a place and may be much lighter, but i don't think it performs as well as rubber under rough conditions. if i had to carry it up on a roof and move around all day, it might make a difference.

poly has problems with cold weather, sharp kinks, and abrasion under load. personally, i just feel better with rubber.

Well, my own from earlier about the flexzilla made me go buy one at tractor supply company.. And its like rediculously flexible. I haven't used it yet since we can't get the ends off the old hose that have been on there for 30 years. gotta buy some new ones

Unless you're unpacking and storing it every day, you won't really see a benefit to using a poly hose. And in BC, I'd say you're more likely to see the drawbacks (BC is not southern California, especially if you're not near the coast). I'd get rubber for primary hoses, preferably yellow or red (the black _can_ leave marks on shoe moulding and the like if you insist on manhandling it around corners; so can the red or yellow, but it's less of a problem and less noticeable on typical wall and moulding colors). If you want to lighten the load when you're on a ladder or roof, add a poly hose as the last leg.

poly and HEAT don't mix aka grinders welders... ya know GARAGE stuff
nor do they like being ran over or coiled up when its cold

Maybe some of you are thinking about the crappy old plastic hose, reinforced polyurethane is great, and the contractors currently have half a dozen or more lines laying across the streets in my neighborhood all day driving over them with both cars and trucks without issue.

See this thread from last year regarding Flexzilla and Coilhose.

Re: Compressor air hose and filter/regulator

I have expanded this thread of mine to also ask a couple of more questions concering my compressor.. The air flow output gauge that registers how many cfm.are being put out is not working properly on the compressor, as it measures a certain amount when there is no air present .If I replace this gauge would it be a good idea to put on a basic filter before it gets the valve or just replace the whole thing with a combination air filter scfm valve and guage.?
Thanks

There's no flowmeter on an air compressor. The only thing your gauge reads is pressure in psi or kPa or whatever they use in canada..

Hmmm,Okay I will have to take a picture and post it up,to see what you think the gauge is measuring.
Thanks for the reply.

Re: Compressor air hose.Mistake made!

I'm Sorry fellas I made a huge error in the downsteam air flow gauge at the regulator, it does not read in CFM's.It reads in Psi and bar units whatever that is.So again Sorry for the screw up!

You won't need a regulator with a 50ft hose. You will get a large presser drop.

Purchased a GreenLine made PolyAir 50ft hose and re and re'd all the fittings with pipe dope, put on the new PSI gauge at the regulator.Everything seems to be running fine.Just need to check when the compressor is supposed to kick in while using air.

I have a 100' Goodyear all rubber air hose, and a kobalt 50' rubber air hose. The Goodyear is great, but the kobalt is even better. 300psi max pressure over 200psi on the goodyear. Stays flexible, and always stays clean somehow hahaha

My HF ones burst when left in UV light. I left mine out in the sun on 50 degree days ad they split.

Mine too, but then I looked at it and realized I had bought the cheapie Made in India black rubber hose. My Goodyear one has held up a lot better.

Just like to tell you guy's as a first time owner of a compressor I sure am happy with it.Someone mentioned that compressors are a bit addictive, I can see that for sure.Picked up an air chuck and some more fittings. There is definitely a sense of power with air,LOL!
