Compressor circuit problems

I received a Puma 6060V compressor for Christmas uses a 15A 220V motor. I already had a 40A circuit running to the attached garage using #8 wire. I don't use a welder so I changed the breaker in the panel to 20A double pole 220V breaker using the # 8 Wire into a disconnect box in the garage and from there #10 wire to the compressor. The compressor works fine except the seperate 20A 120V receptacle circuit 20 A breaker trips.

Both of these circuits are run thru the same conduit a total of about 20 feet out of the house and then back into the garage. Can the 220V line induce into the 120V and trip the breaker?

Would it be be better to just install a sub panel in the garage and run the two circuits of the subpanel?

a totally separate circuit trips? there has to be something cross connected somewhere.

If the 120 volt receptacle in the garage is being fed from a GFCI circuit breaker, or from the load side of a GFCI receptacle this could be what’s causing the nuisance tripping.

Yes, it should be changed, only one feed is allowed to an outbuilding.

Can you clarify the "separate 20A 120v receptacle"? Are you doing dual voltage on that 220v breaker?

If its a true separate circuit with its own breaker, each receptacle trips independently

Where did you get the NEUTRAL for your 120 v receptacle ?

Yes, a totally separate 20A 120 V circuit for all the garage receptacles.

Looks like I will start over and put in a subpanel. I found the Puma electrical spec sheet and says to have a maximum of 10 feet from compressor to breaker.

The 120 V 20 receptacles circuit has its own 20A breaker
and the neutral is connected to the neutral bar in the box
