There is no color code for ungrounded conductors... only grounded and grounding conductors...

I'm not sure if this is absolutely correct. Article 200 specifically designates grounds to be green( or majority Green)or bare. It's actually quite extensive article 200. Grounded neutral are allowed to be white or gray.

I know orange is usually a delta Highleg. So what's the specification for blue? I have a lot of blue wire in my shops.

Although it does not apply to the discussion in this thread, the one place the NEC does specify a color for a ungrounded conductor is orange for the high leg of a 240V 3Ø supply.

yeah i didnt mention it because 99% of the threads on here dont deal with hi-leg deltas..

So what was incorrect about what i said?

I mentioned grounded (neutral) and grounding (EGC and ground) conductors.

The article for identifying grounded conductors/neutrals starts @ 200.6
The article for identifying grounding conductors/EGCs starts @ 250.119

And contrary to popular misconception, GECs do NOT have a color requirement.

Orange isnt limited to hi-leg on a delta but the hi-leg MUST be orange. (Orange is often used for 480Y/277) I did not bring up hi-leg because it is seldom discussed on here.

There is no restriction or code on the use of blue. You can use it for anything other than the grounded or grounding conductor or the hi-leg on a delta 120v/240v....

You've earned my respect! We would play well in shop! And I think we would enjoy each other's company over a beer.:beer::beer:

According to NFPA 79 "Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery" which covers Wiring Methods for Industrial Machinery, blue represents ungrounded DC control conductors.
(The NEC is NFPA 70, btw)
In Europe it's used as Neutral

In AC circuits covered by the NEC or the IEC blue can be used for anything except as a Grounding or Grounded Conductor, and when larger than #6, can be marked at the terminals with by painting white or green or with marking tape and used as a neutral or a grounding conductor

The hi-leg according to the "City of San Francisco Electric Code" must be violet.
(Probably because rainbow colored wire isn't made) :supergay:

LMFAO!!!!

Pacific Gasp and Extortion must have large stocks of violet wire in their warehouses as there are lots of deltas over there....
