Compressor Platform Ideas

Just got my 60gal compressor wired up and ready to go. Need to get some synthetic compressor oil for the break in, then I'll be set.

But ... I'm on the factory pallet currently and don't really want to bolt it down to my new concrete. So, I'm looking for some ideas on a platform. Something a little different.

My first idea was to build a floor and then add some walls to make an open top room, with a small door for maintenance. Then I got to thinking about the floor ... solid, soft, heavy, light .... what would be best?

Probably over thinking it, but thought I'd throw it out there. Maybe someone has already the perfect idea ...

I picked up a used heat pump base pad from a local HVAC company. They had a stack of used ones. But I am installing mine outside (I'll build a shed around it). I can't afford to give up any floor space to a compressor.

Unless you just want to get fancy, leave it on pallet. My 60 gal.been on mine for years. I added 3 in casters with locks on two of them, never had problem in 3 years. Really don't know why I added casters other then mabee some day, might want to move it.Paul

I know many people use hockey pucks drilled and bolted to the feet.

If you look at the instructions for mounting the compressor they don't want the compressor lagged down tight to the floor. They actually want a gap between the top of the leg and washer to allow for vibration.

I made a pallet out of 2x8's.

I put three 1/2" bolts ~3" long through the top of the compressor feet and put washers and nuts on the underside to hold the bolts tight to the compressor. The bolts were long enough to stick ~ 1.5" below the compressor feet.

I drilled three matching holes in the pallet and the compressor just sits on the pallet with the three bolts extending through the holes.

There are no nuts below the pallet.

Good ideas.

I also noticed in the user manual ... not to leave the compressor on the pallet ( which is very cheap to begin with ), or your warranty is void.

I like to make everything in my shop, big and small, mobile. My SFIL had some extra scrap from work, took some aluminum plate, channel and some casters and made this:

Being able to nudge the big A/C a couple inches this way and that, especially while I'm setting up the new shop, has been a great advantage.

I mounted mine to the concrete with anchor bolts and bushings. For separation from bolt and concrete I used tie rod bushings from Oreily. Cost 5 dollars and does and did an amazing job.

I also kept mine (80 gallon, vertical) on the pallet (over 20 years now). I cut the pallet down to just a bit bigger than the units footprint, reinforced it, and added lockable heavy duty casters. While I don't need to move it very often, it has come in handy that way a few times.

If you want vibration damping get some rubber or polyurethane engine mounts and stick one under each foot of the compressor. You could find them really cheap and in all sizes on eBay. Otherwise some plywood and 2x4s would be the next cheapest thing to a pallet

Yea, I think I'm just going to build a new pallet, and mount it on some isolators. That seems the most popular way.

Current pallet is made from the pulp wood ... very soft stuff.
