My current air pump doesn't seem to be cutting it for certain things. Sand blasting especially seems to strain the pump. Once the pump kicks on, it never recovers until I stop blasting for 30 seconds to 1 min.
Its rated at 13-4CFM @ 90PSI.
I am looking at two pumps, one is a 5HP 2 Stage pump capable of 17CFM @ 175PSI, I will not be using pressures that high, I cap my compressor at 125psi, I also don't think my tank can safely handle 175PSI.
The 2nd pump is a single stage 3 cylinder capable of about 18-20CFM @ 90PSI.
My motor is a true 5HP motor I can easily pull both pumps, both cost about the same the 2 stage is $50 more.
I mainly sand blast and spray cars with HVLP, but I also use air tools like impact guns etc.
Is the 2 stage the smart choice here? or would the single stage serve me better because it works around pressures I need?
Also what would 17CFM @ 175PSI translate to around 100PSI? will it be over 20CFM?
Thanks!
