Compressor to Generator Plug?

Trying to help a neighbor out

The attached pic of the plug for the cord on his compressor

He wants to be able to run the compressor off his generator

He told me the compressor was 240v

Any idea what type of plug this is and how can he run the compressor off the generator?

Is there an adapter plug.or doss he need a new plug end?

That is a Nema 6-20p and it is 240v. You would need to make or buy an adaptor to the L14-30R on that panel.

Depending on the surge rating of that generator and the HP rating of the compressor, it may have a hard time starting

Just because you found a adapter does not mean it will work, what is the amp rating on the compressor motor's tag?

You are also plugging a 20a device into a circuit rated higher.

Sometimes we do what we have to in order to get something done, but if this is a long term solution, it's not the best way to do it

13.1 amps
230v

The back-emf aka "inrush" on starting an AC motor can cause the generator to not be able to handle the amp load.

The 13.1A is likely a steady state max amperage (full load amps or FLA) at max HP.

Not uncommon to double the FLA when starting, its just a spike but needs to be overcome.
