Hello, I am new to this site and have searched this forum and everywhere else I could think of and did not find my answers so I will post the questions here.

I have an existing garage with a 3 1/2 " floor which is not thick enough for my 2 post lift install. I am going to cut a pad and re-pour 6" under each leg. My questions are:
1) How large (width x length) does the "new" pad need to be? base plate on lift is 17"x19"
2) The existing garage does have a 32" footing, does the "new" pad need to be as deep as the existing footing ? or since it is inside the existing footing will 6" be enough?

Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

You can figure out the bearing capacity of the soil and figure out the weight of the lift (loaded) and from that figure out the footprint that you need for the footings. However, the overturning issue is what you have to figure for since the footing will not be tied in with the rest of the slab. Depending on the condition of the existing slab, I'd dowel into it to use it to help the overturning. I'd consult the lift manufacturer or check with their specifications. That will keep you safe.

If the footings are well within the outside wall, you won't have to worry about frost heave. If a post (or both) are along the outside wall, I'd go down to the existing footing and dowel into it as well...

I wish I had the install manual in front of me because I can't find the specs for my Rotary. In the manual is describes just what you're asking. I believe it calls for a 4'x4' pad ontop of which the post will be installed - nothing more. I will check again tonight.

Again, check with your manufacturer because this will vary...

Thanks guy's....I would appreciate if you would check tonight and let me know what your manual say's.

Will do. I should just put up a electronic copy of it. I've needed to reference it more than once on here.

If you still need those dimensions, please call or PM me. I can send them out electronically. Of course....they will only relate to the Rotary Lift product line, (but you weren't really considering anything else, were you??) :bounce:
