I failed the final inspection of my pole barn today because the inspector wanted an exterior light outside the service entrance door.
My question is this: The building is a steel exterior post frame building. I went to HD to get supplies to wire up a light and the retired electrician who works there said to use a waterproof round box on the exterior with a ****** connecting to a box on the inside. If I do this, the light will be mounted to a box hanging 2 inches off the wall. Is there a way to mount the light flush to the wall and still pass an inspection in Illinois? It would look tacky otherwise and I'm sure I have seen a metal building without a light hanging off a box. Any suggestions would be great.
