Connection to Exterior Motion Light

I failed the final inspection of my pole barn today because the inspector wanted an exterior light outside the service entrance door.

My question is this: The building is a steel exterior post frame building. I went to HD to get supplies to wire up a light and the retired electrician who works there said to use a waterproof round box on the exterior with a ****** connecting to a box on the inside. If I do this, the light will be mounted to a box hanging 2 inches off the wall. Is there a way to mount the light flush to the wall and still pass an inspection in Illinois? It would look tacky otherwise and I'm sure I have seen a metal building without a light hanging off a box. Any suggestions would be great.

Take a look at Arlington Industries. They make a small line of siding blocks that have an integral box. I found them when I was replacing the lights on the back of my house and found that whomever installed them simply poked the romex through the siding, put some siding blocks up and screwed the light fixtures to the siding (using the fixtures to hold the blocks in place). They have a model 8161 that has a flat back rather than stepped to fit lap siding which you could take a dremel or file to in order to fit it to the ridges in the steel siding. I was just looking at these since my building was just finished today and electrical is next and remembered seeing your post earlier in the week. I'm probably going to use these on mine...I want mine to look neat & finished even if it is 'a pole barn'. It's kinda like the guys who build really nice customized cars & trucks and swap in a GM steering column and leave the stock steering wheel on it ;)

Finished mine up today. Ended up needing to add a Mega plate to the siding block due to the size of my light fixture. Also, unlike the lap siding blocks, the back of the integral box is flush with the block so trimming to fit the ridges in the siding isn't an option. I simply bought some waterproof foam insulation and stuck it around the edges of the plate to seal it to the siding:
