Constructing a pit

After months of debating raising the roof or building another shed have decided to use a combination of low lift hoist and oversized pit I do mostly transmission work on fwd cars and general servicing any suggestions welcome

What did you use for reinforcement, 1/4" pencil rod? I know your pretty far along since the forms are placed but I'd highly suggest you rethink how this is tied into the existing slab and what you decided to do for the cage. Considering it appears the thickness of your walls are 3-4" I'd have gone with #4 bar 12" OC both directions but honestly and since I don't want to get blasted here with inferring bad info you should have consulted an structural engineer for a proper design.

Id like to know why a drain tile was running under the garage slab? And what did you do to fix that and keep the water out of the pit?

Hi it was an old tile drain from when it was farmland It was now running backwards from their property I dug it up at boundary and blocked and disconnected it no water has entered the hole since

It's currently 2.2metres deep 300mm of sand compacted then 200mm of reinforced floor the lift doesn't go in the hole just on the edge of it and the hoist only lifts to 400mm

Not trying to be critical and certainly not negative but how do you intend to ventilate this confined space, and how are you getting in and out?

Otherwise, I really want to do the same! But probably won't due to my shop business moving toward engine building and not "working on trucks"

Hey I have certainly thought about ventilation and access i think I have the location of stairs pretty well worked out but will likely use it with a ladder a few times to make sure there's nothing I've missed ventilation wise a large single phase fan ducted into the pit

Floors drying and hoist in place to check measurements were good looks like it will work well ladder is temporary and steel supports will hold up legs of hoist the engine support is just sitting there

Water was from an old tile drain running backwards that has now been blocked at boundary and concreted up pit is in hard packed clay however I have installed a 25litre sump am just waiting on a internal float switch pump to go in there . Ventilation is a definite priority that I should have sorted this week thanks for the comments

Petroleum fumes are heavier than air and will collect in the pit. Any fan or lights, etc should be explosion proof.
