Anybody ever hear of taking an industrial vacuum pump, in this case a Ingersoll-Rand vintage T30 and running it as a compressor? I am thinking less than ideal, since the load on the pistons, rings and valves would all be "backward", no?

For once I am not sure but thats pretty cool. Never seen one of those before. It also looks like its single stage.

Yes, it's a single stage, twin cylinder, Bore is 4", stroke 2.75". The pump is an IR 244F2, 800 rpm. I think the bore is 4", stroke 2.75". Comes out to ~32cfm at 800 rpm....Not really expecting that, but the math is pretty cool. I am wondering where to look for rebuild kits.

Also found this pic elsewhere online. I think the tank is actually a vacuum tank! Very "backwards".

My understanding is that the T30 is an industrial compressor pump. Using it as a vacuum pump would have been running it backwards.

I am going to call IR tomorrow and ask their tech support folks. Seems there is a "kit" that they sell to convert the vacuum pump to a compressor.

Well, years later here I am in this situation.
How'd it work out?

You would have to relocate the check valves, remove the check valve from the intake and install one on the pump exhaust.
