Sorry, church and family kept me from making progress this weekend. I need to build jamb extensions for all the windows and add a little more rough electric before I can put up more insulation.

I got to a point where I couldn’t do much more work without my tablesaw. My wife and I untarped the trailer and I got the saw and a few other things off the trailer before retarping it.

I was feeling some serious testosterone seeing the tractor lifting a power saw, and a trailer loaded with engines, augers and and more power tools....

...then the sobering image of a package of Huggies. :bounce:

Diaper boxes are REALLY strong! And that box is the perfect size for 3 one-gallon containers of paint solvents (MEK, xylene, lacquer thinner ETC) and you can see in the photo that is exactly what is in the box.(Thank god my kid has been out of diapers for well over 2 years now)
I can guarantee that 95% of the stuff stored on the trailer is pure testosterone.

I got a bit done today. I drove on my cement floor for the first time today (32 days) and did my first servicing (oil change) I put up more insulation board and I mounted a different handle to close my door. I have put jamb extensions on 4 of the windows. It was windy as all get out today and I am glad to be working inside.

I had handles like these in the kitchen of my other house, I took them with me when I moved out.

Looks like you may still be working outside with all that light coming in. :bounce:

Fflintstone, are the standoffs attached to the wrench or is the whole thing is held togeather with the screws?

The standoffs are just short lengths of the stiffest, thickest walled, reinforced rubber hose that my auto parts store had. Then screws run thru the wrenches and the rubber spacers. This worked great for the kitchen cabinets but the shop door is too heavy, I will have to drill out the holes in the wrenches for a ¼” lag bolt. None of my 3 drill presses are in the shop yet so it will have to wait a while. I would also like them to be further apart as well. They were put in at the most common size of cabinet pulls incase I ever wanted to change them, or I were to marry some high maintenance chic that wasn’t as awesome as wife 2.0

Yesterday was my birthday and I did not work on the shop. Instead I went to the local sawmill and bought some hardwood for part of a large shelf in the shop and a small lean to project coming up. I bought all the rough sawn wood on the trailer and all the firewood in the truck (full 8’ box, WELL over a face cord) for less than $30. It was a pain to load all the firewood myself but for dirt cheap I can not complain.

I am making progress, slow but sure. The entire west wall has one layer of foam board up and I put a second layer on the wall segment that my gorilla shelves are going to but up against. I thought I had two full sheets of OSB to put on the wall but as it turns out only one. I need to buy more, but I am hoping for the price to go down. Lowes had it for $6.80 a sheet 3 weeks ago now it is back up to $7.90.
Since I am at a dead end with the OSB I did some electrical. I found out that I don’t like being on the scaffolding out in the shop when it is not next to a wall. Putting boxes up was bad enough; I am not going to like running the cable.
I will post some updated pics soon.

We woke this morning to white stuff on the ground. I put off switching to winter tires till the snow flies. It was such a pleasure to roll my new 2-ton aluminum racing jack across a concrete floor. Unfortunately my impact is buried somewhere on the trailer. I had to do it the old fashioned way.
Here are photos of the west wall, north wall and south wall respectively. You can see the baffles I added to the west wall soffit. That should keep the big gusts down until a ceiling is up, and hopefully will keep birds out. You can see the shrinking pile of insulation in the last photo. The wife was sick today so I could not do much out there.

Nah... already got one bike I don't ride enough....

I have been unemployed two summers now and the choice was to insure the jeep or the bike. So the bike has sat the last two years.
This was my previous supermoto, and my dirt bike.

I picked up 2 more windows for the shop today. Another large opening casement for the south facing wall and a medium sized opening casement to vent welding fumes on the north side. The large window was a new display unit and the medium was used but I got them both for $50. Used some of my birthday money for that.
I no longer need any windows.

Thank god for friends!!!!!!My best friend came up this weekend. We did some discount shopping Saturday, but after church today, he helped me put in the large window on the south wall. It was great to have help. It was very chilly when we started and when we finished it was colder than a well diggers a$$ out there. But he helped me move a 30” x 144” piece or solid surface counter top (HEAVY!) and we put the window in that wall. After we finished and had a nip in my “office” we pulled his GF’s car in and we polished the fogging out of her headlights, hopefully their drive home is a little brighter!
Then after I went in the house and checked email, my oldest friend had emailed that he is done installing 4:88 gears in my jeep! I will have to come up with a good thank you for him.
Woo whoo! Big window installed and 4:88 gears in my jeep! Now I can use 5th gear again!

Well it was a blustery day out there today Pooh Bear! Colder than my Ex-wife’s ……
Anyways I put the final window in all by myself. It is an operable casement mounted on the north wall high above my welding area. I may in the springtime add an operable vent down low to create a natural chimney affect. Or I may just put a box fan up there to **** the air out.
I am glad to be done with windows! I don’t like installing them. They are heavy and I always worry about dropping them. regardless here are pictures of the last two windows.

Well I picked up my jeep today. The first benefit of the 4:88 gears is my speedo/odo is now pretty much correct. Unfortunately my drive home was towing the Bantam trailer. With the locker in the rear end I did hear it ratchet when I turned around. On a slippery road it seamed squirrelly on up shifts. On the freeway (towing the trailer) 5th gear was useable as long as the speeds were up at 75. I will get a chance to drive it without the trailer tomorrow.
back to the shop tomorrow!

I have a pole-barn (not as big) and have been looking into the best and least expensive way to insulate. Been thinking of going the way you have done it. glad you posted pics. what are you going to do for the ceiling? I have 12' ceiling and any heat goes into the rafters, so the first is the ceiling to keep down.

Great start keep posting I'm a fan of your barn.:beer:thumbup:

When the price of the insulation went down to $5 a sheet I bought enough to do a single layer for the ceiling, and then a second layer for the walls. My trusses are on 4’ centers so I will only be putting up a single sheet. Some time down the road I will be adding roof tin and then I can put some loose fill fiberglass. I really don’t want to put more than say R20. I am not going to heat it all the time. I don’t know about the Lowes in your area but this foam board is still only $6 a sheet for 1” thick (1/2” is $10? WTF!)
2 years ago I would have been putting insulation under the concrete, pex inside, and doing a lot more. Now I have to look at things from a different perspective. I am going to mount my load center ”upside down” so I can use 5’ less service cable. Being poor ***** but it forces you to be creative.
A single layer of plastic sheeting will retain a bit of heat if you don’t have the money for foam board.

Went to Lowes and picked up 12 sheets of 1/2'' @ $12.89 per. 1" was even more. Bottom line you got one hell of deal @ 6 bucks per. and yes being poor ***** but I have so much fun looking for deals and freebies.
Keep the faith brother.

I have had time to garage sale and get bargains on tools and such. I had done a lot of tool upgrading before I moved. I do like it when I get a killer deal.

The first batch of foam board I bought (61 sheets) were at $6.49 per. I thought this was a screaming deal. I went back a few weeks later and they were $4.98 per. I bought another 80some sheets and used the 10% coupon and effectively got them for $4.50 a sheet. I was there today trying to buy OSB (the price had went UP:mad:) and the 1” foam board was still $6 per sheet.
The only disadvantage to buying that much is my car looked silly going down the road.

In some aspects, our codes here in Washington are worse than kali-for-nuyah. Guess it's 'cause so many have moved up here.....my story.

My shop is temp wired.....waiting for more money to come in, as usual. ;)

It would qualify as a "mess" to some on this board, but I don't have any room since the boat got moved in there....started out as a shop, turned out to be a storage bin. Knew it would happen, but at least I got the bikes out of it! I need to add on, but again, money, and time.

I remember when I could park a truck in there and work on it....

It would be blasphemy to say I have too many tools in there! :shocking:

No such thing as too many tools!!! Although I have a mantra I chant every time I see a nice old drill press for sale (I don’t need 4 drill presses, I don’t need 4 drill presses, I don’t need 4 drill presses, repeat) in 1995 after I left my first wife, I bought a house with a 20 x 20 garage with a 8 x 12 “tool room” off the back. The first winter (1995) I put a 61 Buick Electra (big a$$ car), a engine on a stand, all my tools (at the time) and still had room for my S-10 pickup. I never parked a DD in the winter after that first year. I bought this acreage in 1998 with the barn already here. And after I built my house in 1999 I promptly filled the barn with ****. I then built a 11x30 lean to store all my rusty jeep parts. When I had to sell my mortgaged house, the lean to was stuffed to overflowing. I built a 10 x 16 lean to next to it and that is full! I still have piles in my yard with blue tarps over them and my 8x20 trailer is full of shop tools covered with 5 tarps.

You will finish your projects when you get the money. I made a lot of sacrifices to have a second home 12 years ago. I am reaping the benefits now. You can cut out items (luxuries) if you want to save money for projects. You can fix stuff and sell it for extra cash.

You are fortunate to live in a beautiful state. I did a loop thru Washington several years ago. There were some gorgeous places in the northwest and one of the best times of my life was in an old school hot springs spa on the Columbia River gorge.
The rooms are updated from when I was there but this is the place

Haven’t been working my but off in the shop, it has been cold and I am having motivation issues. I now have the whole west and north walls insulated and am staring to put the OSB and cement board up. The 2 wall sections on the right are going to have benches and grinders on them. The walls have OSB to the height of the bench and then non-flammable tile backer board behind the grinders. The corner is going to be the welding area and will have cement board, and or roof tin on them. I will be putting up a row of foam board to start the ceiling soon but I still need to do some electric work. Although not a high priority I will eventually wrap the 6”x 6” posts with flashing when I have a friend make some with his break.

Well I am one step closer to a wood burner for the shop. I picked up some stainless steel stove pipe off CL tonight. Unfortunately I didn’t get to work on the shop this weekend due to family obligations. Tuesday I am hoping to bang out some progress out there. I need 3 more cement boards for the one wall in the welding area. I need to pick up some roof tin for the other wall in the welding area.
