Wow man that sux!
Any idea as to the cause of the fire? Did you have electrical run out to that outbuilding?
Anyway, I'm glad it was just an outbuilding and not the house or something, glad y'all are ok.

It is just stuff, and I can get more.
And it was the 12 x 12 shed with a 6 x 12 lean to.
For more details look at my post in general discussions.

I will not be revealing my SPECULATION as to what the start of the fire was until after a settlement.

I am hoping today to drag the toolboxes into the shop today to start tearing them apart to get a tool inventory.
I am not having much luck (yet) in locating stuff I would like to replace my stuff with.
My stuff looked like new and most of the stuff out there looks like ****.

Well I had done a bit of cleaning and organizing to free up floor space for my sons birthday party. You can see the one sheet of 1”foam board on the ceiling. I had to get that up in order to set up the gorilla shelves under it. I should have taken a picture before I dragged my burnt up toolbox in. the box on the other side was much easier to go thru. All the nylon on the ball bearing rollers melted and the drawers just fell on top of each other. This side had the old fashioned metal slides and they just twisted and distorted. The long and the short of it all is that I will be working on cleaning up, and inventorying all my charred tools. So I wont be making progress on the shop.

Looking past the toolbax (which is a sore sight for any of us), you really have clean up a lot! Looks good in there! I hope the insurance works with you and not against you!

We despite the ****** news on my insurance, I made some progress recently. The burnt tool junk is out of the shop and most of the black **** that came with it got swept up.
Outside, with the help of my truly fabulous wife, we took down the remaining burnt walls of the shed, and soon I will start putting all the bunt metal in a trailer and take it to a neighbor who scraps.
Enjoy the photo of a relatively clean shop.

The white fridge looks a little out of place. Sorry about the fire.

Good luck on your project.

Yeah, the paint on the fire side discolored a bit. I was hoping to restore the old vintage fridge and swap in some new guts from a modern efficient mini fridge. Now I may have to do a color change. Maybe a coral and grey two tone????

I posted this in Bulls thread about driveway gates, I was going to wait till it was up but here is what I posted.

I currently have a standard cattle gate across my driveway. It hinges on a cedar post that was tied into another post and diagonally braced. It was locked when we were not here and has kept people out so far.
I made the following gate and was planning on mounting it to a 10” w beam I bought. I need to do a little welding on the w shape to mount the gate. This thing would be in the ground right now if my welder had not been melted in the fire. Creating this gate was one of the last things I did in my former shop before I had to short sell the other house.
I cant wait to get this up this is the kind of stuff I love to create.:3gears:

I actually plan to eventually store NO vehicles in the shop. The tractor, motorcycles and ATV will go in this year. Last winter, I had that and my truck and jeep stored in there as well. The plan is to build a lean to on the side of the barn for everything with wheels.

I love 40' deep leanto's/car ports (see avatar pic).:)

I seond that. I keep looking at the inside of my not-yet-finished barn and thinking "man, its so spacious, I don't want to fill it up..."
A lean to along the whole 54' long wall is in the works for 'someday'. 'Cause there's always stuff that needs to be out the elements, but doesn't qualify for the "premium space":bounce:

Well things have changed, since my shed burned to the ground. I will be rebuilding but repurposing that building, and with what the shed will now house, I will no longer need a portion of the lean to space. It makes more sense for me to put up a 3-sided 24 x 32 carport to house more stuff than a 48 x 16 lean to would hold.
I may some day have to add a lean to but we have to see what kind of settlement I get, and how things go. I have a lot of expensive tools to replace and it all boils down to weather I get a fair shake from the insurance.

This is my 1,000 post here on GJ a lot of nice people on the board and a few err well…
I figured I would like to make my 1K post something special. Well I have done some work IN my shop but nothing to the shop. The fire and tool loss has really thrown me for a loop. With the warmer weather I would like to get back to work. Not really a special post but I will say this again.
THANK YOU TO ALL THE GENEROUS PEOPLE IN THE TOOL COMMUNITY WHO HAVE DONATED TOOLS TO ME!

My camera is FUBAR so no pics, but I put up a few sheets of insulation for a ceiling and got some totes up onto the “big a$$ shelf”. My wife did some awesome clean up in the shop too.

I'm jealous! A friend loaned one years ago for my warehouse and it spoiled me forever. Then he wanted it back and I was sad... ;)

Nice find!

BTW I followed your advice on that loft we talked about awhile back. Ended up just doing a 10x24' space - it fit the building better. When I looked up the span charts it reflected exactly what you said

I don’t post here much anymore; I forgot to post this. I picked up a few of these to use as bases for my long workbench. They will need reinforcement but I got them for a song and the came out of an old store I used to like. The chic selling them was pretty hot for her age too.

Sorry if I missed it, but have you ever posted a blueprint of the supports for the bis a$$ shelf?

I'd like to try those for a similar setup on the other side of the barn.

Also I noticed you left the interior of your posts exposed and insulated between - I'm glad to see someone doing that. It looks good!

So I finally got off my **** and did some wiring for the lighting in the shop. My main lighting was going to be 12 fixtures, I have the switch in and all the boxes and rough wiring up. I have 7 of 9 basic porcelain outlets up. A member on the other forum gave me 3 of the 300W equivalent CFL’s, they are bright!
I hate working on ladders but I am doing this slow and not killing myself, next up is the additional lighting circuits and a run for a ceiling fan.
