I would guess some type of medical instrument. Kinda like forceps?

They are laboratory tongs. The turned down tips mean they are crucible tongs. They're also used for flasks and beakers.

this tool superceded the use of a pair of house bricks in 1904! During a demonstration of how to use the age old brick process, while standing behind the camel, a young female observer asked the Chief Castrator..." OMG ! doesnt that hurt?', to which he replied...." only if you get a finger caught between the bricks!"
