Scott, the cheap one works fine, but you have to do a little modification to it. It takes a little time, and you need to be dexterious to an extent, but I think even my 7 year old could do it. You save a lot of money this way for a little time, here's how you do it.

That looks like a cooling system pressure tester.... not a coolant tester. Which are you actually inquiring about?????

I actually want this to save me time on filling the cooling system, i really hate bleeding and having to wait for it to circulate to get most of the air out of the system....

Normally I drill a 1/16 hole in the thermostat before I install it. The last one I bought came with a hole in it allready

I have a similar tool made by MityVac which does the same thing; it fills the radiator with coolants and at the same time removes air so that no air pockets form ... works really well ...

Looks like a nice addition to the shop. Wish we had one when I was doing the VW waterbox bus engines, always hated burping those!

I have the Uview model and it works great. Ford even has it as an essential Rotunda tool. You want to be careful about two things though. First, I have seen the rubber radiator neck adapter get stuck. A little Wd40 beforehand cured that. Secondly, I wouldn't use it on a marginal engine. When you pull the vacuum if the intake gasket or heater core are marginal, they'll let you know by starting to leak. Also prime the hose with fresh coolant to remove any additional air. It's a timesaver once you get used to it.

Dammit, another idea swiped from me.

You can accomplish the same thing with a vacuum pump and trap and the cap from a pressure tester.
