Great thread for me as I'm in the market and have considered this question as well.
Ultimately, I'm probably going to go with the Stihl FS56 for $200. I think it wins the balance of quality, performance, and longevity of the unit. I'd imagine the thing would last for 10 years doing a smaller yard.
