does $8 per sq ft sound reasonable for a metallic epoxy floor coating?

Will be done in a garage.

Depends on what kind of surface prep is being done, what manufacturer and products are being used, and what type of system you are going for. Care to provide more information?

Keep in mind that without flakes/chips to hide all your sins the installer is forced to make sure every blemish is filled and ground. This eats time and money.

It's all about the prep work. (Like anything in life)
I used to do linoleum and tile and a lot of time was often spent prepping the floor.

Even a less expensive product will last a lot longer if the prep work is done properly.

the $8 pr ft is just the metallic and clear. They are charging $850 for "clean and prep floor. Will do a 1 step grinding to open the concrete and clean all contaminates from surface.

Assuming a standard 2 car garage the price is now $10 a square foot, or about $4500.
