I picked this jack up a couple weeks ago after looking for a long time to find a USA jack...Yard sales, Craigslist, Estate sales, auctions etc.

I'm very pleased with it...I think it's the best jack you can get new for +/- $100

I was able to grind off the welding on the pin on the cross beam adaptor. I found a reducer that fits the lifting pad hole on the costco jack. Everything works very well, but It's still about 1/2" too tall to go under the 'Vette. I still have to drive it up on 2 X 8's to raise the rear end. But..I have a new shiney red jack!:)

Do you think it's worth it to join Costco to get one of these Arcan Jacks?

Costco will refund for the jack and you membership (in full,I think) if you are not satisfied. So give it a try for a few months. Be forewarned, those Mega Packs of TP, paper towels, and link sausage can become habit forming! We spend a very large % of our shopping dollars there. We have the Preferred Membership ($100) and spend enough that it pays for itself with the 2% rebate (not given on gas). Here their gas is $0.20 less than competition!

*- I'm just a happy customer, not a stock holder! (though I have owned there stock in the past)

I just bought that jack a month or so ago, don't use it very often, but when I did, I really liked it.

Whats the difference between the xl35r (costco) and the xl35? Northern tool has it for sale for 109 (the xl35 black one)

I couldn't find the costco on online

the black and red are the same jack.. just the pad on the handle and the lift point. Got them side by side today. Does it seem like they lift a bit slow??

If you really want the Costco Arcan 3.5 ton jack you should get it because Costco changes their inventory frequently. The Costco Arcan 3.5 ton jack has been at my Costco for a long time but it won't be there forever.

I did not purchase the Costco Arcan 3.5 ton jack because I handled three sample models at 3 different Costcos and they all made a loud squeeking noise with every pump of the handle. My local Costco still has plenty in stock so they are not a hot item.

I bought the last one my costco had. still had floor model...but the one I grabbed box was falling apart and was missing the rubber saddle...talked to manager, he said they were not receiving anymore and would take $20 bux off.

I can't believe this thread is still going! The Costco where I got my jack from still has them... almost two years later. YMMV... :)

Seriously considering this jack or a NAPA floor jack. They look very similar. My craftsman groans and slowly drops with weight on it. Apparently 3 tons isn't enough for the front end of a '71 Buick.

I have the XL35 from Northern tools. It was on sale for 109. It works great, the only con is that it weighs a over 100 pounds. Good thing I just roll it around the garage.

I just received mine. LOOKS nice, heavy, but not too heavy to carry around the garage.

. It takes about 22-25 pumps to raise ~1800lbs about 18 inches. This seems really excessive, especially compared to my cheap walmart jack which takes roughly half of that.

Can anyone comment if their jack is the same way?

I don't know if mine is just slow, or if it's normal.

Mine seems slow also. I thought having twin cylinders it would raise much faster.

I got the aluminum version of this jack, its a 2.0 ton jack, but it beats the hell out of carrying the heavy steel one. and I got it for the same price of this one 2 years ago

When all else fails read the instructions :D I found the book that came with the Arcan jack. Under "SETUP" it says to "open the release valve by turning the handle counterclockwise two full turns, pump the handle 10 times, close the valve by turning the handle clockwise until tight".
I did this and now it works like a charm! 7 1/2 pumps to the max. height.
I never read the book as it looked easy enough to setup
PS, I tried the same procedure on my aluminum racing jack and it improved noticeably.

Mine said quick 3 pumps.

I tried the 10 pump thing, its slightly better maybe. Getting 3/4" per pump on load rather than 3/8" per pump.

It is about 8 pumps to full with NO load.

At Costco? Link or a model number please?

I picked one of these up today, actually. Model # is ALJ2T. Our Costco had them at $127, Amazon and Northern Tool both want $200ish before shipping. Really nice unit, right about 50lbs. Specs say you get from 3.5" up to 19.25" for the lift range. Seems to be very well made and quite fast to reach full height. Has a nice, 2-piece handle, 50" long and light as a feather.

I got the aluminum 2-ton from Costco to use changing tires on Bronco. I hate using the small ones especially for the front and this thing is light enough that I can carry it with one hand. I already have the heavy duty 3-ton orange unit from HF, but that weighs in at 150 lbs., so not exactly something you want to have to lug in and out of a Bronco at the roadside. :wtf:

Now the 3-ton HF can go back to garage duty where it came from. I am extremely pleased with the Costco Arcan 2-ton model though, everything I wanted and with a considerable discount on price. I can see why they are flying off the shelves at our local Costco. It's a really good value.

I'm not sure Costco still carries these things, as a search of their website doesn't show it. So I bought one from Northern Tool in the wee hours this morning. Immediately after placing the order I went back to their webpage, and it showed it was no longer in stock...so it appears I bought their last one in stock. So if somebody wants to buy one and can't get it, I guess you can blame me.

Was on sale from NT for $109...a good price for a hefty high-lift low-profile floor jack of decent quality that has received many good reviews. But shipping was $66...ouch. At least it will be fun watching the FedEx guy struggling to bring it to the door. So let's see...$175 for a floor jack...another $85 for 4 6-ton jack stands...and $15 for a year's subscription to ALLDATA for the vehicle that needs work. That's a grand total of $275...just to replace a bad starter contact. At least the next time a lousy $7 part goes kaput on one of our vehicles, I'll have the necessary lifting/support hardware to get to the damn thing.

BTW, if any of you master mechanics have any prior experience pulling starters on a Toyota Tacoma, here's your chance to shower me with some "How To" tricks and tips while I'm waiting for my shiny new black Arcan XL35 100-pound beast to show up.

I just bought the XL35 variant from Northern Tool. I've noticed only three wheels contact the floor. Even when lifting a car, one wheel remains about 1/16" to 1/8" above the floor. The cause seems to be inadequate alignment between the two main side plates.

I think if the jack has four wheels, it should bear weight on all four. Are my expectations too high for a reasonably priced Chinese jack, or should I return it? I hesitate to return it because I'm not too keen on lugging this 100-pound thing back to the store, and the only other one they had in stock was in a box that looked like it fell from an airplane.

Would this bother you enough to return it?

I just picked one up, $95. Noticed the same thing with one wheel not on the ground, probably about a 1/16" - 1/8". Looks like I'll be exchanging it for another.

Did you exchange yours; if so, did you get a better one?

I lifted the front end of a 3,500-pound car, and that was enough weight to make all four wheels on my jack touch the garage floor while loaded. I still haven't decided whether to return mine, but I have to decide soon since my return period only has another week or so left.

I did exchange it (they return it and make you buy a new one) and the next one I bought is better. I was tempted to unbox it in the store since I figured the store floor would be more true than mine but didn't feel like trying to lift it a couple more times.

Yeah, I should have bought this jack when I saw it late last year...

Now none of the Costcos in my area carry it and the nearest one is in the Tidewater area (I'm in NoVA)...
