You might also consider dropping the belt down.

In the highest position, the spindle is turning at ~5000 rpm. That is shaper speed. The faster speeds will amplify the noise and vibration.

I usually keep my belt at the lowest and slowest speed; and that's with a slow speed pulley. Occasionally, I'll go one step higher, but never the top two steps.

Ha. I didn't mention it but yeah after fiddling with everything for a while i did finally look up the pulley position / speed diagram and saw how fast the top position was moving. That helped me sleep a bit better because i figured i'd probably never actually be operating in the top position. You're probably right that even the second position probably won't see much use. Thanks again Frank.
