Hmm, I just looked, it's now $405.00 for the top & $664.99 for bottom, $1,069.99 before tax. Still a smokin deal

no, i think you need to add to cart before you see the discount. quote from slickdeals poster:

"Only at checkout will you see the price reduced"

Very tempting. Great price for what you get. The only thing holding me back is that it says it is only 18" deep. The HF 56" bottom box says 22" deep (for example). That extra 4" can add up as far as storage capacity goes. But, that's just me.

To make this even sweeter for somebody, the VISA $35 of $300 also seems to work.. I didn't checkout, but the extra $35 off shows up in my cart...Have to pay with a VISA card...

Thanks OP.

Read the reviews on the bottom tool chest. Alot of unhappy people. Basically saying the box is flimsy and ****.

well, out of 48 reviews over several years, it's averaging 4 out of 5 stars. that's not that bad.

but ok, looking at the five 1 star ratings, 1 doesn't make sense but the other 4 do mention the casters and the base being weak. the other 44 people who reviewed it didn't complain about the same thing. that's not exactly "a lot of unhappy people"...

that said, swapping out casters for a heavier duty one is a simple matter. adding some steel angle or C brackets to reinforce the base where the casters attach is simple. for the price, that's still a good deal even if it needs a few "upgrades". this is a craftsman box after all and for that brand it's pretty decent compared to the lower end **** they also sell.

but i guess for fellow GJers, it may not be good enough...

For a stationary homeowner box, I like mine and picked it up for a little cheaper than this deal around Xmas. If I was a professional I might find it unacceptable as a roll around. I have the 40" bottom and the 52" top/bottom and am satisfied.
Mine are Waterloo boxes from Mexico, is this who/where they are still made? My Griplatch on one of my drawers was missing the spring and I actually ended up sourcing it from Waterloo since Sears Parts ***** even worse than their retail division.......Waterloo's customer service is great.
As some have said in reviews, these boxes feel a LOT better once the drawers are loaded up.

I hate the drawer layout on these boxes. Might as well just buy two 26" stacks and save some cash.

But this looks like a good deal on a lot of storage, even if it is cheaply made.

You can't get two of the 26" Griplatch boxes for the price of this one bottom chest. I wish!

not that i'm looking for a new tool box at the moment, but in the past i've looked at Menards, but having no local store here, it's not really an option.

I disagree. I like mine quite a lot.

hi southern,

just wondering, since there have been reviews that mention the casters are undersized and the base that the casters attached to isn't strong enough. have you had this problem? did you reinforce the base of the bottom chest and/or upgraded the casters? also, how much have you loaded up this tool box?

i'm not necessarily interested in buying the box, but i do think it's a pretty nice deal and just curious... i might recommend it to a friend who is looking.

Ive got this box fully loaded and have had it for few years using it everyday and havnt had a single problem with it. But at my shop it sits stationary and I have a rollcart that keeps down on most the wear and tear. Its not very heavy duty but I think its a good deal when on sale I paid 900 for mine. There made in the usa by Waterloo its stamped right on the bottom sides of it. Probley not the best professional box if your rolling it around but great home box, the drawer layout ***** theres no top full width drawer and there not very deep so youll have the top overloaded. But for the money its good the griplatch system is nice and ball bearing slides feel great. My harbor freight rollcart its built really good for the money i would consider there big box.

We have one of these that we got off of craigslist

I would choose our HF cabs over it any day

The metal is thinner and the slides aren't nearly as rugged/smooth

Well considering what I have also read on this thread I would consider ti a chep POS toolbox. Why would I wanna spend hundreds of dollars on this and have to "upgrade it" to make it work for me. Makes no sense. If I am spendign that kinda money I want to do it once and one time only and not have to go back and fix things. But hey thats just me.

not trying to argue with you here... but $900 for a 52" wide top and bottom tool chest with this many drawers is *not a lot of money* for what you get. A SO tool *cart* could cost almost that much. so some people could see it as "i'm already getting a lot for my money, what's the big deal to spend a little more to make it better". plus, apparently there are many owners who don't even complain about problems with the casters... it's hard to tell unless you actually see it; everyone's got a different opinion.

My SO tool cart was within a couple hundred of what the 52" top/bottom cost me. Mine is heavily loaded up and nothing has buckled or broken, but it stays in one place. I actually prefer this to the HF stuff, it's not as good as it used to be.

Have you actually priced out toolboxes 900 isnt much at all tool carts are more then that! You wont find a truck box or any other USA box for that matter with its storage for under 5-8 grand thats more then "hundreds of dollars". I work with older guy with a $25,000 snap on box with a canopy and a locker and a middle aged guy with a cornwell box that has $12,000 into it he also has a $1800 drawered snap on cart and that was on promotion. Going out and buying the biggest most expensive box possible isnt going to make money I laugh new guys that can only afford to fill the top drawer with tools because of there tool box mortgage. This is a great box but isnt going to last a lifetime being used everyday but would being used at home. Im going to work my way up, most guys go through 3-4 boxes in there career plus youll have a nice box for home thats not much of a investment or can resell for what you paid for it.
