Have a HF nearby? They have a 90 amp flux welder that might do the job for $90. Or maybe post an ad on CL for someone to come by and do it for $30 or something.

I guess that's not a bad idea. You could use it once, then return it. That's a pretty small stick welder and you would be better served to have a larger MIG or TIG unit on hand.

I'd rather have one of acceptable quality to use occasionally, just need it to tack stuff right now, a Lincoln 140 or 180 Mig is on the list. If I had $500 I'd weld the pipe myself.

anyone have this thing? I'm in a pinch and need the absolute cheapest welder that isn't a compete POS, I looked at the Lincoln Handy Mig but I don't want to pay for a bottle of gas.

I just need it to tack an exhaust stack in place on a tractor so I can take it to a professional welder.

just use flux core wire, no need for a bottle of gas.

the cheap HF welder will probably do what you need it to do.

Forney makes an inverter for around 100 on line, I tried it for giggles, it worked ok with 6011 3/32, bigger tripped the breaker where my Max will run it fine. Its a toss at 100$ but so is that little ******. I gave one away and regret it just so I could test it. ha To get a small job done could use the forney.

The middle is the small rd and I am not used to it, likely this was all after a dozen cups of coffee anyway but the 1/8 11 and the 3/32 18's would trip the breaker about 3/4 the way thru. If it was on a 30A it would probably work ok for a rod here or there, I had intended to see how long it would take to burn up, should have hooked it to my chop saw circuit and seen?
It was really a test to see if a guy could find a 100$ machine,,, I suspect if a guy went to 150 with the Longevity might be able to so it,, another one would be that green thing, forget what they are but they make a 120 inverter. I would have liked another 5A behind all of these.
