Hey, I picked the up the set and one of the add on sets today at sears when they were half price. It seems like it could be handy at some point in the future. Or probably would have been if I didn't now have something to help with a stuck fastener. Let me know if you've ever gotten to use this thing and had good luck with it.

One question though. What's the punch in the kit for???

The punch is to punch out nuts/bolts that wedged themselves in the bolt outs. The spiral gets tighter as it goes deeper into the socket, so the idea is, the harder you turn to break it loose, the tighter the nut gets jammed into the socket.

I think they should be required sockets for anyone who steps foot into a garage. They have helped me many times when I was about out of hope with frozen/rounded nuts.

I bought a set some time ago when they were on sale. Used one recently on a bolt that my brother rounded off on an alternator on his truck. Worked like a charm!!!! The bolt was in there tight and I really expected it to not work. The more pressure I put on it the more it cut into and held on to the bolt head. Never offered to slip.

i have craftsman impact bolt out set, thin bolt out set and regular bolt out set. all sets are working very good for me because sometime some of tech round the bolt so they come to see me to borrow my bolt out set to get the round bolt out. then they are happy that i got it.

i am glad that i have it instead need buy....

i was surprised that craftsman will not warranty the bolt out if it is break..... it is interesting!!!

I dont know if the trucks warranty the stripped lug sockets either. I think it is because they are semi-consumable. Only good for a certain number of uses because the flutes inside just become dull and dont grab. On occasion I use a blue-point set and this is exactly what is happeneing on the 21mm. This is one thing I'm definetly going to invest in.

yes it is worth to invest on it because you only need put it on and turn it off instead use vise grip and destroy more on it....

i used it few time and only use few minutes to pull out the bad nut or bolt...

time is money....

Did not work for me. I had a tight nut and used the bolt out . The nut rounded out the bolt out. Went to Sears only to find it was not under warranty. Ok I'll buy a replacement. No can do. You need to buy another set.

i will buy other set if i broke it or crack it. most of time i got it out as no problems. other techs in my work dont have that bolt out set like i own it. so when they have problem with it and i just hand my bolt out set to other tech and shwo them how to use it then they get it out right after they tried it. they like it but they said that they really dont need it....

well it is their choice...

Deaf, IMO,You are too nice. You are being USED. Again IMO , bolt out's are a necessity tool, as an impact wrench or a ratchet. If you are "wrench" you need the basics.

They don't need it because they have yours! It's nice to be nice, Don't be stupid being nice!

Deaf, Still when a new tool comes out, lets say a torix fastener you need the sockets to get them on/off. You buy what you need. The techs need need bolt outs as bolts will round out. They should buy what they need.

What would they do if you were not there? Ever notice it is the same guys that borrow all the time?

i am par time employee while i am full time college student at ivy tech for automotive technology. sometime that they just wait for parts that will come next day as same time i am working.

my opinion is that techs do need buy their tools instead borrow... but some tech dont make money to buy tool because tech need money to feed family and keep pay the bills....

there is lot of reason to not buy their tools.. but i always will buy tool if i need it....

Just be sure the techs understand that if they break, or wear out one of the bolt outs, they will have to buy a complete set for you since you can't buy just one piece.
I agree with russlaferrera about lending out tools to others. You say you are part time but the techs that borrow are full time? Who makes more money, you or them?

i am part time employee and all techs are full time employee but problem is they dont make money if they dont do work as Flat rate while i am on hourly. my work is slow business because not much of works to be repair....

they dont buy tool if they only used once a time. they said they will not buy the tool if they dont use.. i buy tools if i think i need it... but most time i already have tool what they dont have it.

My rule is if you need it once or twice I don't mind you borrowing it til the tool truck comes in and you buy one for yourself.

If I borrow from you, you can borrow from me

It's sort of like coffee or cigarettes, I don't mind giving someone a smoke or a teaspoon of coffee but don't take advantage of it. I have one of my bosses who works 20 feet from me who makes 4X more money than I and he never has a jar of coffee. I made him a few cups of coffee til one day I just said I don't have any

yeah i am understand that issues. few time i told them to buy it and they said they will buy but they never will buy after i told them...

few tech let me to use their basic tool like impact wrench with socket while my service manager asked me to help other tech while i am at next door. but i just get a feeling like used from special tools like fuel pressure gauage, compression gauages, and radiator compression test. that speical tools i own it and they just keep borrow my special tools because they dont buy and they dont have money to buy it now.... i told them that they can borrow my speial tools but buy yourself after this.... when i am becoming to full time technician then i will start to be control of my tools and have my work give me a vehicles that i have tools to test on it.

Do what I do if you feel like you are being used at work by your co-workers.

Phone in sick and take a whole week off from work (maybe 2 weeks), watch all the other tech's freak out when they can't get the job done cause they just don't have the right tools to get the job done. I'm sure the service manager will eventually tell them that they better buy the tools they need

Just my opinion

Then the techs who feel they are not making enough money to support themselves and thier families should find a new line of work:thumbup:

Do I understand that you work in a dealership with other dealer techs and no one other than you has things like the above mentioned items?
I just work on my own junk, friends junk, and some side work (guess you could say a motorhead :3gears: ) but even I have things like the above and many other tools that could easily be considered special.
Could I outfit a commercial garage? No.
Could I outfit myself in a commercial garage as I understand your description?
Yes, with things to spare.

You're a young guy: who did the other guys get tools from before you started there?

Borrowing is okay up to a point. Especially for rarely used specialty tools, and if I've got this one and you've got that one, and its a give and take deal. Guys who show up with a few pairs of pliers, some adj. wrenches and screwdrivers, and expect everyone else to supply the rest have no place in the trade. As has been previously stated if you need it more than a few times a week, you need your own. That being said, what bolt out set would you users recommend?

few of techs who work in lincoln/ mercury have working there for longest like 20 to 25 years. problems is one tech do simple work like brakes, tires, oil changes, and maintance service like 20,000 miles, 50,000 miles, else. other tech do all check engine light and basic works. they just dont buy special tools. they work for many years and sometime they have to do work where it is not their specialist like engine pull or transmission pulling. i know one tech who worked there 7 years and other techs did asked him to borrow special tools to quick test but he left because he was fired. then new tech got job and he have all vehicles to work on because he have his tools to do the works....

but for my work where one tech have lot of money to owe to snap on guy because he just bought big snap on with credit which higher interests. and other tech work all front end, aligment, and basic services. i have all tools that i can do all works from oil change to rebuild engine or transmission or even differential for both mercury/lincolin and Chrysler/Jeep....

i am watch out which tech did took it without my permission and i have asked them to ask me first. my service manager know that i can do all works but i dont have lot of years in my belt while other techs who working for 15 to 26 years in their belt.

Thanks for the link I'm gonna look into get me a set

I just found a set on eBay, bidded on it and won the bid at $11.50 Not bad considering its $20.00 new. A big plus is this seller is willing to mail to Europe, now only if more people would do the same.

Thanks Deafautotech for bringing up the subject on them:thumbup:
