Was at Lowes for the first time in a long while, I am more an HD guy.

I walk in and right in the front they have these 52" top and bottom craftsman boxes, red, easy close drawers, etc. The set was priced at like $798 if I am not mistaken.

That seems like a really great deal, or am I wrong?

I was just getting light bulbs but the price stuck out, didn't look at model #'s but they were 52" top and bottom stack.

maybe these?

That is like $20ish more then the 44" top and bottom from HF, right? What am I missing?

My Lowe's started carrying Craftsman tools as well as boxes several months ago.

You mean they're selling Craftsman at Lowe's now??? Wow!!! I had no idea.

I know guys, we all know and have known. My point wasn't to let everyone know that they are selling Craftsman boxes at Lowes, it was more to ask what everyone thought of the price and value of said boxes.

As much as we talk about toolboxes here, it seemed after diligently searching the forum there was little to no talk about this. Especially since there are like 1000 HF toolbox threads.

I don't shop Lowes almost ever, I have never put eyes on or saw the price of the new Craftsman stuff and I was impressed, and a little surprised by the price....that is all.

Carry on.

The Craftsman 52" is 18" deep, 37.5" tall, and 221 lbs.

The HF 44" is 22" deep, 40" tall, and 291 lbs.

Just by weight I'd expect the HF to be a thicker gauge, sturdier box, a tad taller and deeper too.

I read an article the other day saying over the next 7 years all the craftman stuff will be brought back to USA manufacturing. I would wait

Pretty sure they already are. Stanley bought Waterloo last year to make Craftsman boxes and I've read that they are plastered with USA all over them.

That is the stack I saw pretty sure, the sticker IIRC said "Assembled in the USA from globally source parts".

Roller bearing soft close drawers...sweet.

As soon as one of my boys buys a house I think I'm going to gift them my old C-man roll around and buy a new one. The drawers would be so much nicer with bearings....but I don't really have room for another roll around without getting rid of my current one.

I just saw a 52" box at my local Lowes. I was very underwhelmed. The drawer slides were terrible! There was noteable resistance in each of the drawers that I tried. This is with nothing in the drawers. I can only imagine what it would be like once it would be loaded. The drawers had a lot of flex as well and this is supposedly for 18/19 gauge sheet metal.

My other complaint is with regard to the number of casters. Only 4 casters?

I had recently gotten a Husky 52" box for Christmas and it is considerably better as far as the drawers go. My Husky box has 6 casters and moves very easily. Both pieces weigh 329 lbs which is more than both the US General & Craftsman. The drawers are 15.7 " deep and support 100 lbs for each drawer.

I like the look of the Craftsman but they need to improve the quality. I think that stated weight of the Craftsman above may be a bit suspect (221 lbs)

Got a link for that... because it's ********.

In Stanley's 2017 Q4 earnings call it looks to me like their VP says they are starting out making ~15% of their Craftsman product in the US but over the course of the next ~3yrs plan to "repatriate" ~50% of the Craftsman line to the US. That's the only place I've seen something like that mentioned. No idea what their 7 yr plan is.

I saw them the other day, they felt really cheap.

Just the short time I have been here reading and researching, everything feels cheap to me in stores.

Then the new rural king in town got Frontier tool boxes in......the tin on carport feels thicker.

There was a review of the SB&D Craftsman ratchet set at Lowes. Nothing special. Just some recycled Stanley design. SB&D makes stuff at a lot of price points under their various brands. There is no guaranty of high quality at a low price point even if it is made here. I never
thought much of Stanley brand hand tools of anything close to recent vintage. It is unlikely the Craftsman line will be anything special. One thing Stanley was looking for was to get into the outdoor equipment market. Expect to see Craftsman lawn tractors, weed wackers, blowers, etc. made by or for them.
