Kinda a petty question but are these ok?
It's something I would rarely use so I don't want to spend 40 on the snap on version

I figure it is what it is,...it holds a chisel or punch so u don't smash ur fingers.
Anyone?

I have the Craftsman one. It works fine!

I'll just grab that one then! I just don't see spending $40 on an item that simple

If they are the same handle as their screwdrivers.....does that mean western forge makes them?

Go with a vice grip I have used several types of chisel holders snap on, armstrong etc eventually the threads or the tension nut give out. Handles split or they do not grab the chisel tightly once the tip gets worn. If you add in the time to change between chisel's IE using a couple of different types on one job the time to change will annoy you after a while. Vice grips WR style work well just make sure you keep the chisels dressed if the grips slide a little.

My craftsman holder works great when I need to hold a big chisel.

Assuming you want to use this trick, what does experience say about using the 5 incher? Too small? or GTG?

5" WR Vise grips work well I have 3 vise grips used only for this purpose as the occasional strike on the vise grips will knock them out of alignment.
I have 3" , 6" , 8 " WR and choose the size based on the chisel or punch I am going to use. However, 5" to 6" is a good middle of the road size. I have a few cold chisels and punches whose shaft is 3/4" / 1" so those I use the 8" ones for as generally I am using a 3 lb cross pein with that size chisel. If I ever get a pair in a garage sale I wanted to try the Irwin rubber gripped ones to reduce vibration though you do not feel it much if you hit the chisel you feel it no matter which holding device your using if you miss. I spent to many years with rivet guns and such and have damaged the nerves in both hands so my sense of touch is well off lol. I can take a pan out of the oven at 200 degrees and not feel it so learn from old folks all the PPE and such they recommend these days there is a reason!! Ehh What did you say ??? LOL
