I was talking to a Sears employee and they said that Craftsman will be going back to making their hand tools in the USA because they have been losing so much business. Can anyone confirm or deny this "rumor"?

I would not be surprise. Their low end evol really does not sell well. And they are cheap. Think it would be a good thing for craftsmen to do it. And allot would welcome the change.

Judging by the fact they they have been moving production in phases and not stopping tells me that this is just rumor. If they were really losing business and cared about it they would have stopped after the first tools were outsourced and it happened. They would not have continued to outsource nearly every single tool they produce.

At least, that's not how a well-run business would do it. We are talking about Sears...

These store "shelf dusters" are the last to know news like this. I'd take it with a grain of salt.

Solitaire Hi,

I have a very nice small plot of land to sell you, I can make you a fantasic deal gosh I do hope you won't mind a few pesky Alligators and it does tend to smell a little from all that swamp gas. Oh and one more thing don't worry about all those mosquitoes, the last person that they stung did not die from any fatal disease,(but his skin did turn yellow).

Sincerely:

The Good Folks from Sears Management that brought you the Blue Boys Team!:D

Judging from the store in my area, it is too late if true.
Very little store traffic and sales have steadily gone down.
I would not be surprised to see more store closings.

I doubt an employee at a store would know that considering the associates at my Sears didn't even know all the new stuff was Chinese. It also seems to me that it hasn't been long enough for them make the decision back. I think its a rumor with little merit.

Rumor. No way they would cut into their tiny profits, and raising the prices significantly to cover the cost of US made tools would turn away a lot of their customers.

Store employees don't know jack. The shift in production to China will continue, there's nothing that says otherwise.

It went from the US to Taiwan to China. I suspect the next step in Sears illogical progression is rebranding tools stolen by Somali pirates.

Is there any rumor SO bringing dual 80 production back to US?

What is import on the duel 80? Is it just the gearing/guts with US made handle? I was wondering why mine didn't say USA under the SO logo.

Sorry about the derailing.

Not the place for this.. in fact, no thread is the place for talking about why there's no USA stamp on the Dual 80 products. Do a search for it and find out, there's been a lot of talking about it.

That junk has ended more than a few threads from the discussion that follows.

Actually India is the next logical step in degression... then Somalian pirates

Somali Pirates!
Brilliant !!!!!!!!!

Combining a low cost "almost free" mfg. operation with a known shipping operation component = "lean manufacturing" IRC.

LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!

Wait, those "pirates" don't own shipping vessels do they? They only hijack and rob them.
Derp.
Bad idea.

Hahahahaha.

Everything else aside, does Sears have a history of making the right business decisions? Do they do what's best for the customer?

Reminds me of the thread a few weeks ago where an HF employee told someone the wrinkle finish on the 13-drawer box was the new finish.

There is no quality control overseas and coming back over here.Dana even suffered too and it was with their Harley Davidson cylinder liner production which was in Muskegon,Mi.Dana thought it was cheaper to send the cylinder liner production to Mexico which they did with a 75% scrap rate. They were dead wrong, problems with the cylinder liners with piston slap.Harley now has someone else make their cylinder liners and dropped Dana.Anything made in Mexico was shipped to China and Mexico was crying. The plants are polluted and Mexico has no pollution laws.

This is just a rumor. The Chinese ratchets and impact sockets have only been around for what maybe 2 to 3 months? There's no way that Sears could have any idea how the switchover is affecting their bottom line this soon. Sears may eventually bring back tool production, but it won't be for a while. A production swap like this takes time and there just hasn't been enough time to really figure out the effects of it yet.

Hi Again,
Sears Management here:

Sorry we have not heard back from the good folks at snap on about bringing back any of the Dual 80 production back to the USA but if we hear of anything you can bet that we will tell you first on the GJ.

Say I like that one about the Somali Pirates but you must have heard that story from Joe at our last Sears stockholder meeting in Chicago last July; Poor Joe can not hold his liqueur.

Now where was I oh yes please be sure and call my office if you hear any more rumors, my personal phone number here in Downtown Chicago is: 1-800-Sears Tools Rock please be sure and tell me the name of your Sears salesperson so that we can offer them a nice trip to some exotic place for retraining.

Sincerely Sears management.

was this "employee" a business manager at corporate or a retail worker employee? i would have more confidence in this "rumor" if it came from a business manager at corporate... but then again, most of the people "in the know" aren't really allowed to talk about this stuff as it could affect stock price. retail employees don't know jack sh1t.

Hi Again Sears Management:

Gosh I sure hope it was not Phil in Corporate again, poor man can not tell a good lie if his life depended on it; I heard his wife was sleeping with the postman.

Say I heard a nice man speak in one of our Chicago meetings about two weeks ago he had a toilet Seat over his head and the name on his shirt went something like JC23 you should have heard his talk about painting trash cans for the poor neighborhoods in Chicago.

I am sure we at Sears Management can have someone like that paint our lovely trash cans maybe with the Craftsman logo!

All the Best from Sears Management where are doors are always open for the good folks who shop at Sears.:)
