Back in the 80's, my father had a collection of Craftsman tools. Older stuff he purchased after moving to Baltimore in the 70's. One tool in particular that eventually vanished was a little hand-held sledge. I've seen them referred to as drilling hammers and as engineer's hammers. This one had that particular head shape, but a wooden handle. Was very smooth on every surface, and had Craftsman stamped (faintly) into the side of the head. Weight was tops...2 lbs.

I've never seen another example of it, and the original has been lost for at least the past 25 years. Wondering whether this description rings a bell for any of you.

Always heard of them as drilling hammers.
I always though an engineers hammer was a big version of a ball pien

Drilling hammer sounds right from here, bought mine in about 1992-3, for a floor demo of ceramic tile. Way more ergonomic when striking a cold chisel than an 16” hammer.

3+# @10” vs 4+# @16”

I have a smaller lighter head hiding somewhere too, but not Craftsman.

Right format, but with the wrong head. Head was symmetrical along only two axes. The bottom of the head was flat, whereas the top was curved. Handle was much darker, and the finish on the head was as smooth as glass. There weren't any hard edges to the thing. Also, it was purchased no later than the early 80s.

I have one. I’ll take a picture later today when I’m home.

This looks like one that Jim C. posted above. I sure I purchased it late 90s-early 2000s. Stock number M38311.
