Sorry tim da toolman i feel for ya. My family had three dairies and work alot of land and grew crops .And then what we grew got throwed on world market and we cant compete with mexico so everyone around completely outta business. Now they think they have figured out way to import milk on ship and keep it cold ! But they will import milk probably in the next few years. Now milk is on world market and dairies dropping like flies and no work. But when we dairied we could not find any help no matter how much we paid. Fast forward to last year i tried to get a job at a factory and i went for a interview and i told the guy i knew about pumps and mechanicing and can do anything. Still didn get hired. Instead they hired a bunch of people that didn know anything and by the first of january they laid everyone of them off ! They only needed a tax write off ! I could not find work but i had a extra semi sitting so i sold my dodge dually and started my old company back up. Now i run an add in the paper for a driver what a joke ! People wouldn show up or didn have a ride lol. Finally an awesome old man called and Said i just need a chance ! So i hired him on the spot ! He ended up being awesome and honest .I know someday i will need someone to take a chance on me. Good luck tim !! Be patient someone will give you a chance And yes the jobs are gone over seas. Wal mart and sears are great for china !!

let me ask you this though... say the "made in China" tools turn out to be better quality, and proven by tests and comparisons, etc.... would you still be pissed about your Craftsman investment? I'm just wondering if the issue is that we think "made in China" equates to low quality or if the issue is that many people hate the Chinese?
OK, fair question. In my humble experience, Chinese-made tools equals variable quality. Not consistent. I would rather have a made-in-Taiwan tool than a Chinese tool... because the Taiwanese-manufactured tools are at least consistent in their quality. Take a good look at a bucket of tools, both Chinese and Taiwanese-made... that have sat for awhile. The Taiwan tools usually have a chrome finish that holds up, no chrome peel. If I pay a competitive/low price for a tool, I would like it to not rust up in a year's time. Not everyone cleans their tools and lubes them with WD-40 when they are finished.

I do like Chinese food though... but I prefer Thai food.

This has to be the most ignorant post I have yet to read on here.

"Get back to work".

WHERE?

I'm 20 years old, WHITE, and MALE. I'm strong, and know a lot about both cars and computers. I cannot find work ANYWHERE.

I cannot even find work at a ****** fast flood place.

I know people are hurting......I know unemployment is MUCH higher than what we are being told. But, even though I can imagine it being possible, are you sure you want me to believe there is not ONE SINGLE ENTRY LEVEL JOB WITHIN 20 MILES OF YOUR HOUSE?

Again, maybe its possible. I don't know you or where you live.....but I do know from the number of posts you have made over the past few days that you haven't spent very much time out there looking.

Where I live, McDonalds is ALWAYS hiring..... Wal-Mart is ALWAYS hiring....the grocery store is ALWAYS hiring...the 3 gas stations are ALWAYS hiring.........and I live in a college town of less than 5,000 people that gets an influx of 1,500 EXTRA 18-20 year old people for 9 months out of the year.

Go apply at a dealership, they will take anything that can breathe, even if it is through their mouth only. They pay the same as a fast food joint too and with the current mass exodus of techs from dealerships, well they will be hiring.

Sam Walton used to have a sign huge "made in usa" signs in his stores. He truly wanted everything to be made here.

When he died in 1992, Walmart shat on him, and started importing as much as possible.

Walton did support outsourcing, he is not to blame.

In my experience, USA-made tools = variable quality. We've seen it with Craftsman, we've seen it with SK, we've seen it with pretty much any brand.

I think part of the overall issue is that too many US manufacturers rested on their laurels and started letting quality slip. At the point that your customer base realizes that they CAN buy cheaper imports that are equal or greater in quality to your offerings, you've pretty much lost those customers for good, and the mentality of "this stuff is just as good as that stuff" becomes commonplace (and, really, a factual statement).

Sadly, it's foolish to believe that simply because a tool says "Made in the USA" that it's better than one that says "Made in Taiwan" or "Made in China" - it's just a valid indicator of quality anymore.

Shoturtle you say we can stop going to wal mart. No we cant they put everyone outta bussiness 50 miles or more around.

This fallacy always amuses me.

The only business Walmart put out of business are those that had inept management that failed to adapt.

This same claim/complaint comes up any time ANY big-box retailer moves into town.

Hell, they're building a Lowe's in Albany, OR a few miles from me, and I've seen letters to the editor telling people they should oppose Lowe's, because it's going to result in lost jobs from Home Depot.

Here stephenville is trying to keep lowes and home depot from coming in because if they do the mom and pop lumber stores will be gone

Not a single smaller hardware store or lumber/building supply place has gone out of business in the years and years Home Depot has been in town. Then another one opened up about 10-15 miles away, and years later, both are thriving, as are the independent hardware stores and lumber/building supply places.

Smart business learn how to adapt and compete. If your only offering was the same thing the big box store sells for cheaper, then you really weren't offering the community all that much.

It's obvious that the smaller stores around here were (and still are) offering more than just a similar catalog of merchandise.

Not an ignorant post at all. It's the truth. You're 20 live with your parents and don't have a job. All your posts are about what tools to buy. Where's this money come from?

You can regurgitate all the fighting talk you want, where's your fight? There's a ton of work in this country. My area is screaming for help, can't find it. The oil patch from Texas up through the Dakota's is hurting for help. Just a small sample of where there's work. You're all grown up time to go out and act like it.

I had a chat with a Sears employee who did in fact say they warranty made in China hand tools at much higher rates than anything made in the USA. Could it be coincidence? Maybe... I'd stick to the American stuff.
