Need some help, as to how the tail stock (?) would work on this lathe.
Short story, got it in semi payment for a side job, 35 some years ago. it's been moved from property to property, garage/shed/carage/shed. been wanting to make some oak legs. dug the lathe out, and actually looked at it for the 1st time. no craftsman id # on it, there's a bazillion entries on ebay. head stock (?) moves freely, as does motor. (i can get a motor anywhere).
work tube (?) is 45'' long x approx 2 3/16 od. head stock, 3/4x16rh thread. i was able to easily spin off the plate.
tail stock is where i need help. i understand use of the 2 clamps. one locks the assembly onto the work tube. 2nd secures the tail piece(?) tube to the assembly. round hand screw in the middle, spins with the internal work tube. (not freely). has a 1/4 x shallow (1/8?) keyway cut into it. tail piece tube is 3/4 od x approx 11/32 id, smooth bore. how does this thing work? and what do i need to get it functional?
took woodshop back in hs, forgot just about everything.
playing the crypt tetris game, i surprised my self, by finding, in the original boxes, 2 faceplates, sanding discs, and a set of seemingly new gouges. somewhere hiding are another pair of aluminum 'multi' pulleys.
motor was wired into an arrow hart overload type switch, i am not going to use it.
