I honestly don’t know how to post here. I just registered today. Any help
would be appreciated.

Has anyone scrapped a box or something (or know how I could find one) that would have this logo I could buy?
I wiped over it by accident with a rag that had a harsh chemical on, and it took off the white paint on the lettering.

My wife is not happy with me. It was from a very important family member.

Or could I paint it with white paint or a permanent marker or something?

I agree with Cobbler . You can buy a paint pen for under $10 and repaint the letters on the box while you continue to search for a replacment logo.

I would repaint it but I wouldn't use a paint pen. I believe the height of the letters is all the same, so I would do something similar to block printing.

I was looking on the Walmart website and did see like an oil based white marker.

Shouldn't say this, but she has OCD and she is soo upset that it was in
perfect shape and now I have to find a remedy. Just wish I could locate one.

Any idea how old this box is? My guess is from the 60’s. It belonged to a very special friend who recently passed away at the beautiful old age of 96 I think.

Brushing or using a paint pen can cause the paint to be applied unevenly. Putting a thin-ish layer of paint on a flat surface and laying the emblem on it will prevent that. How accurate/original do you want/need it to appear?

Oh, I thought the comment was for “me”(DanO.) posting wrong. This is all new to me as of a little bit ago.

Brushing or using a paint pen can cause the paint to be applied unevenly. Putting a thin-ish layer of paint on a flat surface and laying the emblem on it will prevent that. How accurate/original do you want/need it to appear?

The letters are raised up, so should maybe be easy to paint.
My wish is that I could find an old logo like that and pip it on, but I doubt it.
It was perfect one second, and I ruined it in an instant.

Mine was a 1974. Date stamp maybe when you open up the lid and stamped inside the "floor" of the top compartment.

I have read here that the best method to apply paint to raised letters on a vise restoration is to use a cigarette ****. Dab it in paint on a paper plate (almost dry) and blot away. I'm not a smoker and haven't tried this method, but it seems plausible.

Solves the issue I mentioned where paint gets applied too heavily in some places and not heavy enough in others. Not sure if a brayer would work but smokes are easier to come by I'm sure.

- Top box.
Open the lid and look down inside where the tray sits. Now move your eyes to the lower/left corner. There will be a 4 digit code stamped in it that represents the month/year of manufacture (EG: 01 70 = January 1970).

Let's Hear it for the Old Gray/Red Sears Craftsman Tool Chests and Cabinets (60s/70s)

Here is one of mine found in 2002-2003 while out for a walk. This is a '68 model six drawer. The logo and tray are wrong and those are copies of the original Sears catalog ads in the top lid.. It sits in my garage with some vintage Craftsman tools my next door neighbor was going to toss. Also...

You could try looking on Ebay or Etsy for someone making reproduction Craftsman logos. I've seen them before, but I didn't see the one on ebay just now. I think he was actually a member of this site.

I'd take a shot at painting it. I think a decent job would probably look better than any used logo you're going to find from a box that old. The One Shot sign painters paint Cobbler mentioned is shown here:

Plenty of other options if you search "how to paint raised letters". Or as was mentioned, just take it to a sign painter. It's pretty small, I can't imagine it would be that expensive.

If you aren't confident in your brush work, you can use a sponge/foam dipped in the paint. Get a few different textures and experiment until you get the right sponge to do the job. I expect that you'd want something soft with a tight cell.
