6 points will not work on 12 point bolts. 12 point bolts are found on many diesel engines (this is why the 1/2 drive is all 12 point). Hope that answers your question

I was in Sears tonight to pick up my Hot Deal jumper cables, and I checked out these sockets. The boxes say Made in the USA. The ratchets definitely look different than the three or four Craftsman ratchets I have right now, but those sets also say Made in the USA.

According to the clerk I spoke with, these sets are on sale through 03/02.

My 3/8" module arrived (in a heap at the bottom of the box) this morning. All made in the USA, including the 60 tooth ratchet.

I went to pick mine up last night and they were not available...

I guess i didn't read the email message, just the subject. The blades were ready for pickup but, nit the socket modules. It said they won't be in until 3/15/13...

I wish I had just shipped them to my house, I'd have them now...LOL

I picked up the 1/2" set a little while back. I still dont understand why the larger sizes have a different finish on the inside. I saw a 1/2" Industrial set at the outlet and it was the same way.

FYI - Ordered several sets on 2/26. Sears say they shipped, provided tracking number with UPS. UPS doesn't acknowledge tracking number, still waiting from Sears customer service for a response!

I don't know why they have different finishes but I do know that is part of the reason I like the Hansen trays because they are square drive up.

I don't know if this is a new deal, but does anyone have this set. Any idea if it's made in the USA. What's the difference between "Professional" and "Industrial" as this appears be an industrial set.

There are a few other threads on the industrial tools, but essentially they are the last of the made in USA regular craftsman tools. (they sell them through Grainger and such as well). These are not the craftsman professional tool line that used to exist, those were noticeably higher quality tools than standard craftsman

I bought that socket set as a good throw in the car for traveling/4wheeling set. It seems nice for the money. Nothing extraordinary about it, just regular craftsman quality, but made in USA still.

Ha, when I went out on the porch to collect my box of tools, my wife had a package of her own from UPS (clothes) sitting right on top of my package....she didn't have a lot of room to complain about that one. lol We both eyed the other's box, then mumbled something, and went ahead and enjoyed our purchases.

All three of my modules (one of each) finally were ready for pickup so I dropped by today after work.

1/4" Module - Made in USA!!!!

3/8" Module - Made in USA!!!!

1/2" Module - NOT Made in USA :-(

Guess I'll call around tomorrow and see if any other stores have the 1/2" Module Made in USA and in stock so I can exchange these...

Found *ONE* set of the USA 1/2" at a store about 22 miles away. Ran up there on Friday night and did the swap, so now I have all three "Made In USA" sets.

Just an FYI. I was just at my local sears and the 3/8 and 1/4 add a module sets were china. This is the first set I have seen that was china. Scoop up the USA ones while you can

The 1/2 drive set at my local sears was USA. They also had one 3/8 set left that was USA. All the 1/4 drive sets were china. Thought sets were going to be USA for a while. I guess this is the end of the road and all China now

The sets I saw at my local store were made in the USA. I believe they had one each of the 1/4" and 1/2" sets. They were out of the 3/8" sets. Even though I don't really need them, I'm kinda wishing I had just bitten the bullet and bought them.

Apart from appearance, is there any difference in these sets and the professional sets? I know the professional ratchets pictured on the Sears website look the same as the ratchets in the 154 piece mechanic's set I bought a few years ago for 99 bucks. The ratchets in these sets are a different design, at least visually

I'm a bit worried now too. I also ordered a 3/8" and 1/4" set a few weeks ago. The 3/8" set was shipped and it arrived all made in USA. The 1/4" set wasn't available for shipping, only store pickup. And it was only available for store pickup after a couple of weeks. So I should be getting more information about it in a few days. Based on this discussion, I have a feeling it'll be made in China. If it is, it'll get returned right after I pick it up.

Same here, 1/4 came today U.S. of China. Here are some pictures for those who haven't seen China vs. USA craftsman sockets. The finish is different and the china socket is thicker walled.

Yeah this pretty much *****. Sorry to you guys who missed the USA sets. I heard these sets would be USA for a while, guess that was wrong.

Thanks for taking the time to take pics and post them.

One note-
The open stock thin profile ratchets are made in Taiwan, not China. I wonder if the ratchet in that module is made in Taiwan and then just assembled with the set in China or if they are also now making those ratchets in China, too?

the china socket is thicker walled.
Just like how the Chinese RP ratchets are fatter than the USA version.

Some stores still have USA. I travel a lot for work and stop into a sears when I get time. I may just but them even at regular price. It is worth it if that is the product they are putting out now. Has Sears claimed anywhere that the quality is supposed to improve or stay the same? At least when Lowes switched to Taiwan the tools actually improved. From what I have seen so far it looks like Harbor Freight quality at USA quality prices.

I always love an excuse to buy new tools but how many sets of sockets and wrenches of the same stuff does someone need?

I ordered a 1/4" set online just after Christmas, and it's USA. Guess they're replacing the stock with Chinese made once the USA stuff is sold out. :(
