Hi everyone,

I recently picked up this motor at an estate sale but it needs major work. The cord and switch are missing. I’m planning :headscrat on trying to put it back to safe working condition but don’t really know what in doing. This is my first restoration attempt.
I currently have it disassembled and the cast parts bathing in soapy water in my crockpot. I’m trying to remove the painted parts without damaging the original finish. I would like to save the original finish so it can match my Early 1940’s drill press. It has a newer style motor that I would like to replace it with this one. To keep it all period correct.

That part I will need help with the most is the wiring. I can’t seems to find a diagram and since wires were cut, I don’t know where they go. :shocking:

Is it worth saving?

If anyone who has restored one can chime in or lead me in the right direction. I would greatly appreciated. Thank you all and keep those post coming. I enjoy reading about everyone’s cool tools. I will post plenty of pics.

Here are a few pics of my 115.5454 when I r&r'd it. My wiring was a mess when I took it apart. It looks very similar to yours. Hopefully they'll help. Yes, I believe it's worth saving if all the parts are there. I love mine. It's nice and quiet and works well. I'm about to r&r another motor for another drill press I just picked up.
I'm going to post most of my motor related pics in case you need to see something besides the wiring:

Did your motor have a capacitor? I think danandmelrod's does have one. If it doesn't and is like yours here's a wiring diagram I came up with for my similar model.

I believe in theory they should be the same/similar. If it has a capacitor I would need to crack open one of my other motors.

A multimeter would be a great help in figuring out what goes to what...

Mine doesn't Michael. I couldn't see his too clearly in the pics and there doesn't seem to be a ton of info on-line about his part number.

Hey Sgt, what did you use to clean your contacts and coil? Did you replace your bearings?

Here is a pic of the parts being removed from their soapy bath. It was covered with 3 layers of paint. For some reason the before pic didn’t come out but here it is after. I’m just going to protect with some gloss clear coat.
