All three of the Craftsman Premium Grade Ratchets are on sale now for $15 to $23 off. They don't seem to go on sale very often. I have the 3/8 version and love it. It feels good in your hands and the 84 teeth is super smooth. This ratchet is one of those ratchets that when you hold it you know it is quality.

Don't forget to look for coupons in your SYWR account and use the app to see if you can snag a $5 off $20. If you get two or more use save15 coupon code. Also when you add it to your cart you get a extra 13% off select Tools! Sold by Sears.

TOOLS COUPON! $15 off your orders of $75 or more on select tools Sold by Sears! Use code SAVE15.

I have never seen them this cheap. It only means one thing. They are going away. I hope not but I would be willing to bet they are not being made any more and what's left is it.

I wonder how many years they keep repair kits?

They do go on sale from time to time. But it doesn't happen much. But yeah $120-130 for the set is about the cheapest they get.

I am probably going to purchase these...but it does seem like an odd fit for Craftsman to begin with. They're eliminating or have eliminated the Craftsman Professional series, switching manufacturing to China for basic hardline goods...and have USA ratchets that are cost more than a decent portion of their mechanics kits. Seems like an odd duck these days. Didn't seem so odd 10 years ago.

At this point I don't think so, I just picked up the 1/4 about two weeks ago at this price and then the price went back up.
Also they go on sale for this price ounce in a great while/few months

Yeah i see them on sale a lot and i own all 3. They are really thin profile and the handles are nice on them. Just have to use a light oil in them or they bind up if you lube them up with super lube.

Like i said. I hope not. I have all 3 and love them. But when Sears starts putting things on sale that much off and more frequent usually spells the end. There is not much of a market for these outside of GJ members. Average Joe (Sears Target customer) will never buy these. Pretty much anything Pro grade or premium has gone away in the tool line up.

Damn this thread. I already own the 1/2 and I can only imagine the 3/8 being equally as nice. It is going to be really tough for me to resist.

Hmm. I do not have the app. Let me go download it on my iPhone and check. Now that I think of it, it has been a while since sears gave me any sywr points.

Thanks. I found the exact coupon you described. This is even more tempting now. Must resist...

What is even more tempting is I just logged into my account and noticed I got $10 in points for that purchase today. hahaha More tools! Look how excited Danny was when he found out.

care to elaborate on what coupon gave you $10 in points?

Edit: Never mind. You probably used the spend more than $50 one.

I am still on the fence. I just bought a milwaukee 3/8 electric ratchet in hopes of not needing to use a normal ratchet as much.

On the other hand my only 3/8 ratchet is a raised panel.

Just make sure and check to see if they are locked up. When I was picking up my 1/4" in store last year one of them was locked up on the shelf still on the cardboard tag! Definitely my favorite ratchets even though I was hesitant to sell off my US made thin profiles for these.

It seems that if it doesnt lock up in the first couple uses it should be good to go. Ive locked up two new ones.

The 1/4 has the lockup issue if you push the lever too far. Kind of hard to explain, but the selector switch can move to 2 positions for each direction. Stop at the first position and it's fine; push it a little further, and it causes problems. The 3/8 and 1/2 do not have this issue, nor do the thin profiles.

My 1/4 and 1/2 is great but my 1 of my 3/8 (i have 2) has the lockup every so often id just take it in and get a new one someday when im bored or something. Its not bad or a big deal really but if you relube with an extremely light oil it pretty much fixes the problem totally. These do not like any type of thicker grease type lube i have tested everything on these ratchets and i only have problems with superlube even just a super thin coat.

If you own the USA made full polish "thin profile" Craftsman ratchets, would you buy these? Are these any better and why, other than tooth count (60 I think vs 84)?
I currently own these:
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-pc...0944992000P?prdNo=14&blockNo=14&blockType=G14
only they are the domestic, not import ratchets.

Yep higher tooth count, sealed, a little longer, different shaped handle, no quick release for the premium. Here are the 1/2"s side by side. (I only have the 1/2" thin profile but I have to imagine it would be similar among all the sizes) I do like the premium better. I haven't used either of them a ton but both work nice. However I would suggest checking them out in store first. Get a feel for them and see if you like them.

Thanks for the comparison. Don't know if I want to spend the money yet. I also have a few snap on hard handles, 30 tooth, so i'm looking to upgrade tooth count at some point in time.

Both seemed pretty smooth for me and didn't seem like a whole lot of difference teeth wise. I like the quick release of the thin profile, but the handle on the premium just felt better to me. Those pics of the 1/2" are kinda deceiving. Both are very hefty and the thin profile was just a little too fat for me. I thought I would hate not having the quick release as all of my previous ratchets had it but it hasn't been a problem yet.

I own all three sizes of the Cman thin profiles (USA), plus I believe I have nearly every version of the GearWrench 120XP's thanks to the Trident deals, but I honestly don't think I'll ever buy another ratchet that doesn't have quick release. No regrets on the 120XP's, but I find that the Cman thin profiles are usually the ones that I reach for first because of the quick release. Too bad these premiums aren't quick release, or I'd consider giving the 3/8 a try.

i haven't had any issues with socket removal with these ratchets. i find it harder to put them on than to take them off......and its not that hard to put them on. i used some valvoline synthetic grease on my 1/2" just to see if there would be issues but so far none to report, the lever switches from forward to reverse normally :dunno: .

i only use these at home on my vehicles so i don't know how these would stand up to daily use.
