I have an older black handle Craftsman Pro screw driver with a rounded tip that I need to exchange . Will they make me a regular hard handle as replacement ?

do they even make those anymore? I don't think I saw them last time I was at Sears.

I would assume so
I don't know what else they could do for you

you might be able to get the rubber handled ones since they are closer in quality to your pro

The older black handle Pro's have been gone from Sears stores for close to a decade. The newer red & black handle versions were discontinued a few years ago and most Sears stores no longer have any in-stock. The entire Professional tool line was discontinued (poor decision on Sears part) and most of the Pro Tools now bring a pretty penny on the secondhand market. Chances are that the replacement will be a regular clear handle screwdriver. Sorry.

I wonder if they have some stock held back in the warranty box under the counter though

It's a possibility, but unlikely. That might be a good question for me to ask the store clerk next time I'm in there.

OP, let us know what happens!

Just thought I'd post a couple of photos of "The Way It Used To Be"...

Craftsman, in my humble opinion, shot themselves in the foot, when they discontinued these...

I wanted to buy this set two years ago, but my order was cancelled...bought the Proto Classic Professional set instead...

Periodically, these seem to magically reappear for a short time...I don't know where the stock comes from...

The current equivalent is still the pro series, but with a different handle and shaft. Reportedly the same as the current SK soft handle drivers. I'd advise looking at other brands for new screwdriver purchases though. I went to Wiha.

I considered tracking down black and/or orange Craftsman Pro torx/screwdrivers but became weary of arriving at the situation you're in. Not only are they difficult to find but, as mentioned, people are asking astronomical prices. There is/was a pretty beat black set on eBay that, judging by the photos, were hardly worth the asking price. Its a shame they had a short production run. They're sharp and I've read good things about them.

If they don't have something comparable that you want they will give u store credit

Sears was once a high end retailer, now just another china importer. I got a bunch of the old craftsman pro(black) ones. Went to snap-on about 15+ years ago or but did use some of the craftsman ones. I put them somewhere since Sears basically is a 'shell' of its former self.

If I could get store credit and get another brand that would be great.

^ ^ ^Since you obviously don't want those black Craftsman pro screwdrivers, how about putting up a GJ classified ad for FREE + shipping. I'd take those off your hands. ;)

Yeah, I agree, it seems to have been a stupid decision to discontinue the Cman Pro screwdrivers. I know they aren't the best screwdrivers around, but they are pretty good and were readily available.
