It's showing up for $43 on the sears website now...I gave it a shot.

Such a gamble ordering from sears. Will I get shipping confirmation? Will it show up? Will it be packaged decently? Will it be chinese? Who knows!

$41.26 (price is down a few dollars, but the 3/8 set is up a few dollars)
Craftsman CLOSEOUT! 82PC Professional Use Mechanics Tool Set with Case
| Online only | Sears Item# 00936369000 | Model# 24848
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-82pc-professional-use-mechanics-tool-set-with/p-00936369000P?prdNo=3&PDP_REDIRECT=false&s_tnt=39869:3:0#desc

$43.74
Craftsman CLOSEOUT! 65PC Professional Use Socket Wrench Set, 3/8-Inch Drive | Online only | Sears Item# 00936373000 | Model# 24846
http://www.sears.com/craftsman-65pc-professional-use-socket-wrench-set/p-00936373000P?prdNo=4&blockNo=4&blockType=G4

both professional and all sockets and drives
both have guaranteed forever warranty

versus the 154 piece set that does not mention professional or industrial, correction--> same warranty, but several nice extras - nut drivers, hex, etc.

I also might be able to justify under $50 now - but darn, as others have said, this section of GJ is dangerous.

From reading various GJ threads it sounds like the professional version may be a better quality and maybe still USA.

Ended up trying the 82 piece @ 40.27 then applying coupons - thanks to GJ

Lesser warranty? It says "Backed by a Forever warranty" for the 154 piece set. And just last week I read someone reporting buying a set and it was made in the USA. Though, it might have been the version with the 12-point wrenches, Model# 35154. Earlier, I posted the link with the 6-point wrenches.

Can't comment on whether the Pro/Industrial line is better than regular, other than there is a lot of debate whether there is much difference.

BTW, you can return online orders at a local Sears.

I don't know. The price drop might be the ONLY attractive thing about those closeouts.

A little price comparison shows the Craftsman 13PC Professional Use 12PT Full Polish Metric Wrench Set at $101.49 down from $289.99. That is comparable to the price of WrightGrip metric wrenches selling almost as low as their "closeout" special, its satin finish though. I have a feeling Craftsman has decided they can't sell in the mid to high end market, as in "closeouts."

None of these seem like that good of a deal to me. They seem like a fair price for what you get, but not that good. I've seen a lot better come from Sears in the way of pricing.

I agree. I've purchased a couple of these sets previously at similar prices and was unimpressed with the ratchets. I don't think that plastic selector levers have any place on a "professional" ratchet.

Craftsman non Industrial sets don't have US Made ratchets... If you can find US made sets at all that are non Professional Use (Industrial) then you will not have a US ratchet period, also probably not US made extensions either.

Their latest mechanics toolsets and modules also have gone completely to Chinese production.

Also if you buy thru Kmart or mygofer you get the product shipped the same day unless its after store hours. And you get the lower price. It just seems the actual sears (and craftsman) sites are the screwed up ones when it comes to pricing and processing orders...

You don't think $43.74 is a good price for all US made sockets, extensions, ratchets, breaker bars, and case in one set? All are marked USA and Industrial in these closeout sets.

Plus you can use SWYR discount points and Coupon codes to cut the price even lower. I paid less than $30.00 for my set after discounts...

It will be here tomorrow, but I already know the quality as I already have the 1/4" and 3/8"s sets...

So the packaging will say a regular mechanics set is made in the USA, but the ratchets and extensions inside are actually made overseas?

I thought Sears won the lawsuits against them in this regard.

Not only do I not "think" its a good deal, I know its not a good deal. For 26pcs I'll pass. Like I said though, it's not a bad deal either, just a normal price for what you get.

I paid about 50 cents a piece for my sockets new from Sears, but that is lower than most deals.

@MPOWERD, received mine today. Should have snapped a few pix before I put it back in the dark room downstairs away from wife. the 1/2 SAE set has some weight to it. I guess I should have expected that with the # of larger sockets inside. If anything weight might mean quality. The blow molded case has a sharp inside edge so be careful of cuts. To be honest, I don't use the stuff often enough to know if it's better than regular Craftsman sockets (when those made in USA). Interestingly, lots of Craftsman tools are just stamped with "USA" rather than "Made in USA". I know most would assume that means it's made here but, could it be some "smart" marketing? I guess it's rather deceptive if that were the case, so they probably wouldn't do that - besides, the industrial line craftsman web site explicitly says all their industrial stuff are made in the USA. So yeah, can't be that bad a deal. Would have been better if it were metric I guess, if working on cars.

Yea cost of everything has gone up... But this is below the cost of what Sears wants for their new china **** that is replacing the US made tools...

What did you pay for your ratchets, extensions and break bars a piece?

If its stamped USA its made in the USA. If its only assembled they have to disclose that on the packaging or get hammered by the feds... The replacements wont have that stamp unfortunately. Should say Made By Communists for Stupid Americans.

Go take a look at the new imagery they have on the sears website. They are removing Made in USA from everything. Their mechanics toolsets have unmarked ratchets in them already.

Unfortunately its discontinued... My father paid 5 cents a socket, but since the sets and prices he paid (when he was alive) no longer exist either its not a relevant comparison, nor is yours (again unfortunately)...

For what is available today its a good price, especially with the discount coupons and points. I think I paid less than 50 cents a socket in this set.

This set is made in Taiwan! That's why they're so cheap! Called and confirmed it with Sears. Craftsman 26 pc Inch socket wrench set 1/2-inch drive #24841. Got a set off of ebay claiming they were made in the USA! I'M VERY UPSET! The way to tell is the ones made in the USA say made in or forged in USA. And the other imports just say USA.

For a first post, you really come out the gate with some stupid incorrect information.

These are Made in the USA Craftsman Industrial branded sets.

I think it is dead again. Added it to my cart and at checkout, it would not process. Tried adding it again and it would not let me.

Sears is a ***** tease. I added my items to the cart and enter in all info and hit submit order and it won't process. I tried this at 6:30am CST.
